Two of my friends and I are having a blind taste test tomorrow before a beer festival. This is no attempt at a humble brag, just interested in hearing your experiences. Thanks! @NHbeerguy and @Liverocks

What's your take? Excluding the many variables of freshness, IPA vs. IIPA, etc...

I've never had the Hop Drop 'N Roll (sad I know) but definitely interested in the results as I love the other 3 beers. How many of you are going to do the test?

I want to do one here with my friends with Gandhi, Sea Hag, Heady, and a couple others around here.

Heady >> HDR > Blind Pig >> Pliny.

But that's just my take. HDR is surprisingly top notch, I see why it won Gold this year. Too bad its really difficult to get ahold of now though.

Drink the Pliny and Blind Pig, then mail the rest to me since I haven't had them.
Seriously though, I'd drink them in this order.
    HDR> (IPA)
    Blind Pig> (IPA)
    Pliny> (IIPA)
    HT (IIPA)

Gandhi, Seahag, Ducks, Galaxy, and Coriolis

Honestly, I think Galaxy tops them all. Tasty as hell.

    i think

    1) people who hold up the concept of blind tasting (e.g. competitions are blind therefore fair) are barking up the wrong tree, since there's something to be said for knowing what to look for and finding it (or not) (e.g. finding subtle barrel aging influence when your SuperPalate isn't sharp enough to find it blind... *you still found it, and it still matters to your experience*)

    2) everyone should do blind tastings because they're cool and you learn about your palate. just see (1) if you're inclined to religiously worship this manner of tasting or that, rather than simply preferring one method of judgment over another.

    3) don't know hop drop and roll, but i bet the other 3 will be easy to pick out. plus they're all awesome.

Depends on if you've had these brews before. I haven't had blind pig but have had the other multiple times. If you've had them they are all distinct. In a "blind" taste test I could pick out every single one of them. Anyways. Cheers! They're all good. .. At least the ones I've had.

lol just no... HDR is good but Pliny is definitely not last. It's a distinct style. I'll be happy once BA makes subcategories for ipa/DIPA. West coast and east coast have distinct differences. While on the east coast I much prefer west coast. of these I've had, Pliny is #1 and heady close second (coming from west coast ipa fan). HDR, being from Charlotte, a close third. Will BA make subcategories for styles? I think it would be cool. Distinct difference. Cheers!

Heady with ease, followed by Pliny and Blind Pig...then Hop Drop N' Roll collapses before the finish line.

Me and my neighbor did a blind test a few months ago with Pliny, Heady and Resin.
My wife poured the beers for us and brought them out.

I rated them: HT, Pliny and Resin
    He rated: Pliny, HT, Resin

I would do all four. Why not? Have water and some crackers to clear your palate. Those are some heavy hitters.

I love blind tastings, but I always find them a little skewed because of number 1. "Man, this beer came in a little hot; just a little bit of alcohol." Well, bud, that was BCBS, at 14%; shouldn't that influence whether or not that little bit of alcohol flavor was a detriment, or actually impressively smooth?

I want to do some more, but in my opinion, it's a lot more useful and telling if you've already had the beer before, unblinded (or plan on doing so in the future).

I've had everything except for the Blind Pig…of the three remaining I would say that they would all be easily chosen out of a blind lineup: HDR is much more malty than all the others, but very well balanced in that maltiness. Unless you were blindfolded too, the color of the HDR would give it away immediately. Same goes for the Heady, which would easily be separated from Pliny and (assuming) Blind Pig in terms of clarity. I guess when it comes to blind taste testing it completely depends on the taster's palate, so asking for other people's experiences in tasting them will only throw you off. Cheers!

Have had all but Pliny, my order would be a close: HT-HD&R-Blind Pig. Three amazing hoppy beers.

Sorry! Left out one key bit of information. I have tried ALL three, but Blind Pig. So I should be able to pick them out fairly easy. My friends however, have tried NONE of the offerings. I'm more interested in their take and introduction to these tasty brews.

    Cheers!

Have not tried Hop Drop n Roll, but as great as the rest of the beers are, Blind Pig is the cream of the crop. I may take Blind Pig over Two Hearted, and that says something. I would love to do a blind tasting to taste that.

Haven't had Hop Drop 'n' Roll, but Heady is above Pliny for me. Blind Pig did not live up to the hype at all, even though it was relatively fresh.
