There is a difference between something being released publicly and something being released to certain individuals in private conversations.

I know a bunch of breweries and such that are trying to come into TX, but I also do not go on here and list them as they are still works in progress. There is common sense used that if something is told to you in private, it should not be spread unless that person tells you it is fine.

I agree in premise, but let me paint you a picture.
Somebody else passes off a volunteer bottle to somebody else and that person doesn't relay the message -- so somebody else, in this case Matt, tries it. How should he be expected to know JK's wishes? JK cannot be sure that everybody will know this -- so the expectation is kind of unreasonable. I'm sure Matt would have obliged had he known. He took actions to try to roll it back, then JK took actions against him for something they only told him he shouldn't do after he'd already done it.

Have you ever played a card game with a 3 year old who changes the rules so you can't win? Punishment in this fashion is almost that absurd.

JK can do what they want -- and I'm reacting in kind. I just don't want a good guy to be treated this way ex post facto for "wrong" he didn't realize he was doing.

    Ron here.
There's been no pretense involved; we've simply been dealing with our internal issues internally, rather than on a public forum. We sent a copy of the label with our neighbors at Logro farms, with whom we collaborated, and weren't as explicit or as emphatic as we could have been in our request that they keep it to themselves. Lesson learned.

Regarding our volunteers, we allow to take home some bottles of the beer they help package as a reward for their ward work. These are generally high-or low fills, or bottles that required recapping. They're given out with explicit instructions that they should be stored warm until the beer is deemed ready for release, and that they're for personal consumption only. Under no circumstances, are they be traded, reviewed, brought to bottle shares, or put forth as finished representations of the beer in question. As Jeff said, we're not going to make our volunteers sign legal forms, but we do, nonetheless expect them to abide by these instructions. We now a pretty good idea of who the responsible party was, who decided not to do so with respect to Snörkel, and once we receive definitive confirmation, suffice it to say, this person will not be invited back.

As stated, we contacted Matt directly regarding our decision, as well, rather than making it a public matter, but since it has now become one, we'll share the full contents of that email exchange:
We feel that our actions in this matter were wholly warranted. I'm sure that others will continue to disagree, and perhaps even opt not to visit us or to buy our beers as a result. While we regret that that's the case, this is their call to make, and we continue to stand by our decision.

    Regards,
    Ron

I think the only proper thing to do now is to hold a silent candlelight vigil outside the brewery tonight and no one can ever buy any bottles of Snorkel.

Until two weeks from now.........when I head down there..........and then, no limits.

Its interesting to look at the ratings for Snorkel and see how a lot of Houston folks have all already rated it a 1, so that it has a bad rating. A lot of people must have shared that bottle.

At least man up and actually write a review, rather than just putting down a number.

I've mostly been out of this but was just told by someone to look at the ratings. Looks like several "Texans" rated this a 1/5 as of yesterday. I'd certainly hate to think that there are so many immature grown men on here that are that spiteful and mean.

It's hard to give a higher rating than that when your bitter tears are falling into the glass.

We all have opinions and are in our right. Surprised to hear about the reviews...I mean all of us that keep up with Jester King, at least through their emails and here on BA, know...MUST KNOW...that they're wild ales and Jester King often tells us that the beer isn't ready until its ready. IMO, reviewing a beer that is not ready pursuant to the brewer is not reviewing the beer the brewery intend to release. In the same, yes reviewing it afterwards, say two years later, after is has changed and changed is reviewing the released beer.. Yes, same beer, I know and I see the contradiction but we know JK says its not ready until its ready.

Or, you know, making a false review to take a jab at JK for their decision to protect their product.

I'm normally a huge fan of JK Beers, but this has to be the exception to the rule.

I was lucky enough to have Ron give me a taste of this beer. Unfortunately it's all over the place. The taste is overwhelmingly fungal mushrooms
The appearance is it's saving grace with the taste like previously stated just not very good. An unusual miss from JK

Based off this thread, I'm not surprised it's "those" people who rated it poorly. Good job showing your ass fellas!

    Edited your quote for brevity.

There have been more problems in this thread than most in the SW forum, so we've been following it a bit closer than most.

    Those ratings haven't gone unnoticed.
