Drink stouts year round, and the best season for stouts is right around the corner.

    That's what cellars are for.

People enjoy changing things up from time to time. People also enjoy traditions. Personally, I enjoy having seasonal releases during each season. That doesn't mean that I won't drink a stout in summer! But I will not, under any circumstances, ever drink an iced coffee, no matter how hot it is outside!

Weird. I thought cellars were for rich people.

Warm weather warms stouts up to drinking temp nice and quick. Cold weather keeps certain beers cold for longer, prolonging the enjoyment. I think everyone has it backwards.

I prefer stouts to most every other style of beer, so I tend to drink them year-round. I do, however, gravitate towards the lighter/lower ABV stouts during the warmer months. But as soon as the first cool day of Fall arrives, that signals "imperial stout season" in my mind. For me, nothing beats a Saturday night watching college football and enjoying a bottle of a nice 10% RIS or double/imperial stout - it just feels right.

Stouts only in cold months is like saying breakfast stouts are only for morning time.

When I first glanced at this thread, I thought it read "Stout in Heat". Thought this was going to be an interesting topic. Well, since I'm here. Imperial Stouts year round till I'm dead in the ground!

I often wonder if the stout/summer/winter thing is just a result of forums and such. It may just be the overgrowth of a general idea.

At one time, before the craft beer boom and internet forums and beer knowledge all we did was drink the same old crap. It was like water and we drank it anytime in all seasons. On a hot day after a ballgame or cutting the grass we grabbed a cold brew...ice cold! The beer was about 3-5% abv. Mostly lagers. You could chug that stuff all day easier than soda. With the coming of, or realization of what we now call craft brew, we started getting a taste of heavier beers, higher abv, more hops, malts etc. ALES!! These fine brews deserved to be savored and sipped. With the better beer not being like "water" we couldn't really shoot them down our gullet like the piss water we had been drinking after physical activity all these years.

Of course in the "craft beer" selection there were also lighter beers. Better made and tasting but lighter and less abv for some. Some may be higher than BMC in abv but lighter in flavor none the less. We termed these "session" beers meaning we could have these at a party. BBQ or anyplace we may be drinking a lot and not sitting around "sipping."

I think it was at this point that a new path was starting to form and over time it has been exaggerated and blown up into this lighter beer for hot days heavier/higher abv beers for colder weather thing. Nonsense!!! Drink for yourself! If you are drinking a lot and want something lighter then choose accordingly. If you are in the mood for a good sipping beer then again, have it. Hey! If you want to take a heavy and/or a high abv beer and chug it then by all means do that too.
Be a beer aficionado not a beer snob!

What about liquor? Around the pool you may have an umbrella drink. Is it forbidden or strange to have one in winter? Or can you not have a Martini at the pool? or Wine? Who cares. I understand the winter/summer beer thing but I thing it's an overblown thought born out of the internet like so many things. Beer is beer and you dink it according to what you are looking for "personally" at any given time. Ever have soup in summer? I do all the time. But it's hot right? Hmmm...seems to me so is my steak or chicken or fish or potato...

    Just my 2 cents

Well, I have a cellar and I'm pretty far from rich. Anyway, what I meant was "cellaring your seasonal beer." Doesn't technically need to be an actual cellar/basement.

No joke - I could genuinely drink something like Black Albert (13%), Green Flash Double Stout (8.8%), or Beer Geek Brunch Weasel (10.9%) in warm weather. It's mind boggling how such big imperial stouts can be refreshing.
