Mine I believe was Guinness. Maybe back in the 70's or 80's

1st American stout I think was Sierra Nevada

Guinness - 1992 - Was out at a pub just after I arrived in Scotland for a year of study abroad. My friends told me to try it. "If you like coffee, you'll like this." I did, and it was at that moment I turned my back on the cheap American lagers I'd been working since I started college.

Wait seriously there are other "stouts" for newbies not named guiness? Not buying it.

Believe it or not, mine was Plead the Fifth last year, picked it up on the recommendation of someone at the bottle shop. I had my first sample of Guinness side by side with founders oatmeal stout (nitro) in June, if that had been my first stout I probably wouldn't be drinking then now!

It was Guinness. Used to love it and often ordered black & tans.

I actually think mine was Avery - Out of bounds stout in high school. I thought the label was cool.

Mackesons. I was about 5 when I tried it. My humpty backed, club footed, deaf as a doorpost great aunt swore by it after acquiring a taste for it in hospital.

My first stout was a Guinness Extra stout. I still enjoy the extra stout and foreign extra stouts from time to time, although I rarely have a normal Guinness. Once in awhile if I'm at an Irish pub if I'm in the mood.

I think mine was the Irish stout at Dillon Dam Brewery. So that doesn't really fall into any of the choices since its an American interpretation of an Irish Stout.

Started with Guinness went to Murphy's then to Sammy Smith Oatmeal Stout and then American beer improved tremendously. Guinness has always been there, old reliable.

First American stout? Off the top of my head, Samuel Adams Creme Stout, which I still actually like.

My first stout was Guinness in the early 80's. I was in the Air Force headed to Europe for a month long exercise and we were on a fuel stop at Shannon airport in Ireland. The older guys said we should really try a Guinness. It was actually pretty funny. It was early in the morning and the airport was practically empty when we showed up. There were 2 older gentleman tending bar. They look up and see about 150 thirsty GI's headed straight for their bar. I think we floated their Guinness keg.

Guinness, in Ireland, 1985. I was on a family trip and of legal age there (18). I saw old ladies drinking them, so I figured how bad can it be? I HATED it. Warm, funky and nothing like the Bud I usually stole from my dad. I now love stouts, but still don't like Guinness. Give me my breakfast stout
