I wince when I view peoples photos and their glassware does not match the brew. For example, a well known Belgium brewer glass filled with the beer of a different brewer next to that brewers bottle. (i.e. Tremens glass and Sam Adams bottle.). It's just wrong. I just feel that unless their brands match they should photograph with a generic glass. Is it just me?

I am more concerned with having proper glassware to fit the style than having the proper brands. I don't have generic pint/tulip/snifter glassware, so I would be screwed.

In a perfect world it would be awesome to have a proper logo'd glass for each beer. Unfortunately, there's a few issues:

1: Many breweries only have 1-2 styles of glassware with their logo. I would rather have the right type of glass than use a shaker pint just because it has someone's brand on it.

2: Lots of breweries don't have any custom glassware at all, or it's not available in the US. We have several hundred imports in our shop, but we can only get matching glasses for 75-100 of them.

3: Even if you could find proper logo glassware for every beer, would you really want to dedicate that much cash and cupboard space to glasses?

I have a problem with this too but I won't lose any sleep or it. Not everyone can be a purist no matter how much it might make sense.

You can't be serious. . . ? I think the 'proper glassware' thing is slightly overdone, but I get it at least.

This? Not the slightest bit. And I have a massive glassware collection, and I still don't get it.

I can see the side of OCD you speak of, but I frankly dont care how anyone else drinks their beer. When I am drinking my beer, I am sure that I use proper glassware when appropriate. When I am at a praty, the appropriate glassware is the bottle it came in.

Lol. Its just a pet peeve. I have far bigger issues to worry about than this. I understand the economics of owning glassware and using it to drink. But photographing is somethind different.

I love to use branded glasses for the "wrong" beers. My favorite "standard" glass are US 16 oz. Noniks with logos for Geo. Killians and Bud American Ale - I like them because a 12 oz. bottle fills it to the lip with room for a generous head. I find a standard12 oz. bottles of beer poured into a true Imperial pint Nonik psychologically troubling with that large gap near the top - "Where's the rest of my beer? Has someone else gotten the first few sips?"

For smaller glasses for drinking higher abv beers like barleywines, etc., I prefer to use the classic US sham pilsners - typically 6-8 oz. - some of mine are branded Country Club Malt Liquor, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Schaefer - or 25ml willi-beckers from long gone German breweries (typically 25-50ยข from little old ladies at the flea markets).

I've got flutes from Knickerbocker and for Blatz Continental Special (probably their dark beer), tasters from Jax and Leinenkugel (pre-Miller) and pilsners from Ballantine.

As I drink from them I think "Well, the beer may be lousy, long-gone or now reduced to just a cheapie brand from Pabst, but they sure made some fine glassware..."

    Absolutely this.
In fact from now on I will try to use my Pabst Blue Ribbon goblet exclusively in ALL my pics

I have cases of Stella and Bud glasses that a friend who owns a bar gave to me. They come out for parties, and are a great deal better than plastic cups. Thankfully I serve the 'wrong' beers in them, and I tend to think my guests appreciate that. No photography allowed, too, but not really for that reason :sunglasses:

I am basically polar opposite here, not only do I not believe the name on the glass must match the beer I am drinking, I also don't buy into the use X glass for X beer for a better experience, I think it is a ploy by the glass makers to get us to buy more glassware.

It's personal to a degree a glass is a glass. I use a kinda tulip wine glass for my Stouts and Porters, I like the longer stem, bought is at a flea for something like 2 bucks. I use my SA glass for my IPA's, as a rule I don't really like the shaker pints although I do have a few from various breweries because they're kinda cool. The brew Pub I go to everything goes into a shaker pint like it or not, and only one bar here in the area uses the correct glasses for the brew and that is Sessions in Greensboro. He has the beer on tap set and served set to the correct temp for the style too.

My problem is more about how it costs $12 to ground ship a $6 glass.

No kidding. It has kept me from ordering from a lot of brewers. Glassware is fun.

STYLE of glass is what is important
NOT the logo on the side...
If it does match then cool
If not then glass style wins !!

I think it is cool as hell when the glass matches the beer, especially with a lot of Belgians that are not often seen in the US. OTOH, I don't get why ppl would be upset by a logo not matching the beer as long as the type of glassware is a good match for the style of beer.

for some reason, I love to pour my IPAs into a snifter glass, as opposed to a pint glass or fluted-style tulip...I like sticking my nose into a nice and chewy IPA!

As long as the aroma and the flavor of the beer come through in accordance with an individual's personal taste preference, who cares what glass it is poured in!

My pet peeve would be people who do not clean their glassware properly...

I shoot for style rather than logo as well... Having ticked over 1500 brews now, I don't have room for that many glasses for each brew. Just the way it works...
