So played in a local brew pub golf tournament yesterday. Was expecting some good beers to be had. They have about 40 beers on tap and pride themselves on a good selection there. Mind I get the golf course didn't allow bottles on the course but the beer line up of cans was pathetic IMO.

    Bud Light
    Miller Lite
    Canadian Light
    Labatt Blue Light
    Coors Light
    Coors Light Summer Light
    Bud Light Lime

There's so much a reputable bar could have selected other than this crap.

Sorry, had to vent . And the Stone Enjoy By from my fridge was much appreciated when I got home.

Did you ever think that MAYBE the brewpub had nothing to do with the beer selection on hand or that maybe local distribution laws made it tough/impossible/too costly to have their own stuff available?

Man, at least get some Boston Lager or SNPA. There's no excuse to not have one of those at this point.

Just so I got this straight. The tournament was sponsored by Brew Pubs. There is a bar at the golf course that sells beer, with 40 taps, but this has nothing to do with the Brew Pubs sponsoring a Tournament. The only beers available to be drank on the course were BMC.

Maybe the bar at the golf course found that they sell more BMC than craft to those golfing so they decide not to stock craft cans?

What did beers were pouring on these 40 taps?

The bar having the golf tournament has 40 taps. The bar having the golf tournament supplied the beer. Bar at golf course closed on Mondays, so they weren't even in the picture. Sorry not be so clear in original post.

And yes we had fun. More fun if better beer though IMO.

As someone who plays in a bunch of golf tourneys/scrambles with the intention of winning/taking some money the beer on tap or what the beer cart girl has is of no consequence to me. I'd have couple of blue lights be happy with my winnings and celebrate with my own stash!

But to your point if my favorite pub was sponsoring it I'd expect a little more too.

$135 a man : normal round with cart is $42 there.
$93 went to a hamburger , strip steak that was fair ,salad, potatoes and pasta salad. Seems to me that they had some extra funding to throw at least some decent barley pops out on the course. Yes, I did crush some lite beers and lit up the Light Beer badge and lager badges on UT , lol.

I don't think I've ever played in a golf scramble, or for that matter paid for tickets to a PGA tour event where there was a good craft selection. For example, the PGA Championship at Valhalla two weeks ago had this line up (and everything was pretty much $8 per bottle/can)
    Bud
    BL
    BL Lime
    Michelob Ultra
    Shocktop
Shocktop Apple Wheat something or other
    Stella Artois

Our local golf cc has a passable selection from time to time - usually Sam Adams Boston Lager in bottles for a while a Kona Brewing variant on tap, but that's about it.

Did you give feedback to the golf course and/or the people running the event? Your observations are valid, but if the right people don't hear them, your local situation's not going to improve. It sounds like the wrong person picked the selection, but it's not representative of the brewpub's normal taplist. Should be an easy fix for next year.

Wow, I'm sure the OP didn't sulk or cry during the golf outing. He just came on BA to comment that he was disappointed with the selection that a CRAFT bar sponsored outing had only BMC, and only light ones at that. I probably would comment on here too. Cut the man some slack!

A brew pub sponsored event should have good beer.

We drank 16 oz Becks at The US Open in Pinehurst. They were $6 and I was happy.
