Can't agree with that first part. Been there plenty, never had a service issue, and I've yet to meet a single person that won't go there due to service.

I've been to Falling Rock many times. Great service if they get a sense that you know what you're talking about. I had a friend ask for a guiness and shit turned ugly.

I will second that I have no idea what you're talking about service-wise. Never had a problem with service here. I know boatloads of locals that go here.

Hops & Pie has an awesome beer selection too... (as long as you don't mind waiting an hour or two to get in the door)

Besides the beer selection, one of the things that appeals to me about Falling Rock is that the staff just don't give a shit. I love it. But they've always been so great to us, and I've never heard of any locals who refuse to go there because of service.

I think thin-skinned folks "refuse to go to Falling Rock". But I've never had a problem. Pick your beer, be ready when you order and don't fuck around.

immediately after GABF is a pretty great time to be here IMO--sometimes there's pretty cool stuff on tap and in bottle stores that didn't sell out.

I don't really have anything to add re : places to drink, my faves have all been mentioned, but Potager is and has been my favorite place to eat, for a long time. They do not have a mile-long draft or bottle list but they will have some beers that will pair well with what will be, then, their autumn menu.

Underrated/under the radar: For casual/burgers I'd go to TAG Burger Bar in Congress Park; permanent Russian River rotator plus, I don't know, maybe 7-10 other great and locally oriented taps. Where I met BA Asak10 actually, got my Sierra Nevada Beer Camp tix.

A smaller (than the megas) bottle shop some of us like but is also IMO underrated in this forum and not mentioned yet in this thread: Grapevine Wine and Spirits

Edit to add: Grapevine Wine & Liquors, I mentally merged it with Joy Wine & Spirits which I also like and which is also underrated IMO--they are working hard to beef up their craft beer selection.

The usual suspects have been listed. A couple other options that never (or very rarely) get mentioned:

Highland Tap & Burger (in the Highlands, across I-25 from downtown)
Teller's Taproom (in Lakewood, the Applewood neighborhood to be specific)

Both have great atmospheres with good food and great beer selections.

Just thought I'd offer something other than the same old mentionables.

I work two minutes from Teller's and have never heard of it! I'm going to have to stop by, thanks!

Another thing worth noting about the Falling Rock - pick your beer and have 2 back-ups, too. They do everything by hand, so when something runs out, you'll only find out if you try ordering it.
Also, check the dates on your menu. That will give you some idea of how accurate the tap list it. If it's more than 4 days old, it's a crapshoot.
While they're a little bit surly, it's usually a good-natured kind of surly. They play up the attitude a bit, but they're nice people acting irritable and not the other way around.

Lets be honest, nobody goes to The Falling Rock to be waited on hands and knees. We go there because BEER!

The only time I've felt service sucked at Falling Rock is during the riddick releases of GABF-week. They're not fucking around at that point so don't get cute and things will be fine. Other than that, never had a problem. Agreed on the food though, do not eat at Falling Rock, haha... way too many good places to eat in this town to bother.

In general, their fried snacks (french fries, shrooms) are solid. We usually get a snack there, especially when drinking something big and dangerous.

Falling Rock recently-ish added fried pepperjack cheese sticks, and they are legit.

Speaking of wings, I'll add Colorado Plus to this list. Their wings tossed in the peppercorn buffalo sauce were some of the best wings I've ever had.

Over 30 Colorado beers on tap, including a couple they brew on site.

Thanks for the info, I am going to be in Denver in a couple weeks and I want some places a bit more off the map. I've done Falling Rock/Freshcraft, etc enough!

If you go up that way, hit up Yak & Yeti as well, 10 minutes down the road.
