I love getting growler fills but most places are just too expensive. Whole Foods seems to be the best. Got a 64 oz fill of Yellow Rose for $9 at The Domain today.

What other great deals are y'all finding?

I'm not sure anyone can compete with the Indians. Here in New Mexico, there's a place just north of Santa Fe that does growler fills (64 ounces) for as low as $5. If you're passing through the area and can get Elevated IPA at that price, you'd be a fool not to.

Pretty much Whole Foods is the cheapest in Austin.

We have pretty low prices at HEB on 249 and louetta. Yellow Rose is 11.99 for 64 oz. If you are on twitter follow @beervintage. Menus are tweeted out pretty often. 8 taps but getting more in a month.

NXNW usually has pretty good deals on fills, esp during their happy hour. Of course, you can only get NXNW beer. It's an especially good deal if you want a swing-top 64oz growler and don't have one yet.

Anyone know how the prices are at Draught House and Brew & Brew?

I believe DH charges the price of 4 or 5 pints.

Growler Room used to have better prices but they've been nuts the past year.

WF Domain is using beermenus.com now.

I can't speak for all the Whole Foods, but when I approached this exact subject with the staff of Whole Foods Montrose I was told that if an employee wanted to tweet/facebook/smokesignal something related to work (i.e. a tap list or special tapping), each individual communication had to be approved by corporate. This process could take days and would make it difficult to keep an up-to-date list.

Can't speak for all Whole Foods but the one near me lists on Taphunter. Personally, I prefer the growler fills at Growlers-Montrose as they are fresher and pressure-filled. I've had growlers of Yellow Rose from WF that were not fresh and not fully carbonated. Sometimes WF sits on kegs which is a crime for IPAs.

Seconding Growlers on Waugh for Houston folks. IMO best selection in town, fresher batches, counter-pressure fills and just all around good guys working there.

Just grabbed a 64 oz fill of Yellow Rose at Domain WF. Best 9 bucks I ever spent.

$9? Nice. My local brewery in town here charges $15 for a 2l fill and due to CA law you have to buy or use only their glass.

Had to try a gluten free diet for a while and am now only slowly getting back into the beer scene, and I totally missed the growler concept for too long!

Will WF fill any (clean) growler? Who has lowest prices on initial purchase of (empty) growler? Will places fill the ones sold at Austin Home Brew? I know sometimes you can get a "deal" on a filled growler.

    Thanks!

Domain WF is fricken insane. Me and Babaracus go there from time to time(him more than me since he lives practically across the street) and the prices there are always fantastic and we were told that they plan on concentrating on hard to get kinds of stuff.

    so yeah, doing it right.

Here is the info from Whole Foods at the Domain in Austin, TX [I am not affiliated with them in any way, but it is very close to my work location and easy to stop by for me]

    Empty:
    2L growler was $20
    64oz was $6 (screw top)
    32oz was $6 (flip top)

Price of fills is based on pint price:

    Pint 32oz 64oz
    $4 6 9
    $5 10 15
    $6 12 18
    $7 14 21
    $8 17 24

Clearly they have a good deal going on the $4 pints with the 64oz fills. Looking forward to some Live Oak and (512) fills!

When comparisons were available between growlers and bottles on the shelf, it seems that the versions bottled in 4 or 6 packs were cheaper in bottles (for example the Dogfish Head Festina Peche) except for $4 pints (like Breckenridge Agave Wheat), but those bottled in bombers were generally a better deal in growlers, though with exceptions. I didn't compare everything of course.

Naturally, the main thing that excites me about the growlers is getting things that are not available in bottles to take home!
