Yep, gose. Thought I read the collab was up to 22 breweries now too.

They said 22 initially, but they meant 22 brewers. Some of the breweries are sending multiple representatives.

Are sacrifices involved? Do they stand in a circle holding hands while ingredients are poured in? This sounds suspiciously like a party, that I'm not invited to and I'm jealous. Of course all will be forgiven if the results are tasty!

You are invited! Not to the brewing itself, but Mystery's Public House will be filled with those same brewers tomorrow starting at 4 p.m. Then they're doing a panel at 5 p.m. I can't make the drive to Hillsborough this weekend, but I bet it'll be a good time.

A gose though? I mean, that seems like the SC state beer with Westbrook bringing the style back and all...

I'm not sure that a gose is the best decision, as was mentioned above Westbrook has created a phenomenal example of the style, it would be hard to improve on that beer. I would love to see a good Berliner though

I have to imagine the discussion started with, "Well what ingredients could we literally source from the NC mountains all the way to the coast?," and then they just designed the beer after that. Though I guess an oyster stout could have worked, too. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it sounds like an interesting beer. Sure, Westbrook can be credited with its resurgence, but that's not to stop others from brewing it. There seem to be lots brewed in NC recently: Green Man, NoDa, Birdsong, Fullsteam, Steel String, Trophy, Wicked Weed, etc. Trendy though it is, think of how few there are compared to the venerable IPA.

I love gose, but wish breweries would make more of an effort to bring back Grätzer. :stuck_out_tongue:

First off, I had never heard of Wooden Robot Brewing and that's a strange name for a brewery. Secondly, although I like the concept, the fact that there isn't a single Asheville brewery involved is not fully representative of NC. Lastly, is this going to be bottled, canned, draft only? I like that they're going with a non-mainstream style but its success lies solely in its serving type.

Sounds like there may be too many cooks in the kitchen on this one, but hopefully it comes out tasty. These aren't exactly the most well known breweries in the state to be making a representative beer for NC. Hopefully I get to taste it since it's tap only at participating breweries.

“North Carolina Gose West” will be tapped at the Great American Beer Festival between Oct. 2-4 in the Guild Pavilion area. It will also be available at the World Beer Festival in Durham on Oct. 11., and it will be on tap at participating breweries throughout September and October.

Wooden Robot's negotiating a space in Charlotte's SouthEnd area. The name's a bit quirky, but refers to brewing as an art and tradition (wooden) and also as a science (robot).

I don't think you'd ever have a style of beer or a collaborative effort that is fully representative of this state's diverse beer scene. It's just impossible. This was an effort by the guild to do a collaborative beer using all local NC ingredients with the view to showing it (and therefore the state) off at GABF. I have no idea why no Asheville breweries participated, but I have to assume they were invited.

I dont think they need anymore press than they already get! I mean Wicked Weed gains nothing from this, whereas small new breweries attaching their names to something with Fullsteam who already has a name for themself. Almost all Asheville breweries are big enough without their help.

Sorry if that came off a bit curmudgeony...
