Cask Focused Breweries

id be curious to see one that did really well if that was a thing. but casks aren't popular and many people dont even have a beer engine. i cant imagine it would be a good business decision to focus on casks because of that and you would be greatly limiting what you could sell

 

Pratt Street Ale House in Baltimore serves Oliver Breweries beer. They always have a few casks with typically delicious bitters and IPA's. Great place and one of the only pubs I have been to that makes you feel like you are in an English pub.

 

Michigan has at several that I know of, probably many more also. I know of Arbor Brewing in Ann Arbor and Rivers Edge in Milford. I think Brewery Becker in Brighton has only cask ales, but I have not been there yet...

 

Hogshead and Pints Pub, both in Denver.

 

Probably around 90% of Uk brewers are cask focused and most actually brew nothing else.But the infrastructure is in place and cask is acknowledged as a quality item.

Half Acre in Chicago kills it with casks! I always manage to stop by while in town and so should you!!

Akari Mist is a great summer brew.

 

Pretty sweet and I'd like to make it up there to check them out. Also dig the breathers on the casks in order to keep them longer.

 

I am pretty damn impressed with them even though they are super new.

 

I haven't been yet but have only heard great things. I heard they are cask conditioning their kegs too

 

Brewery Becker is not Cask, haven't seen one there.
Rivers Edge has 2 handpumps.
Grizzly Peak often has firkins for some beers, but most is from brite tanks.
Most of Abbors beers come from brite tanks.
You will see casks from Bells and New Holland sometimes.

Thomas Creek does a lot of casks but I wouldn't call them cask focused. They do cask night once a month and carry them to festivals and events. I've seen a few get distributed locally too.

Do they do better cask than Dry Dock? I realize they aren't totally focused on cask. Just looking for some intell for next time I go through that area...

 

Probably a question that's best for @Domingo to answer...honestly I don't have enough experience with them to opine on it. I can say that Hogshead has a great rep and is worth the trip, plus it is really close to Hops & Pie so...win/win. Pints Pub, from when I've been there, is hit or miss with their beers. But as another bonus, if you are a scotch drinker, they have the biggest single malt selection outside of Britain (or so they claim...but it really is a huge selection). I haven't had any of the Dry Dock cask stuff so no idea.
