I don't so much think it is a problem with the thread title as the general thread topic. You are correct in stating that your intent for the thread wasn't ONLY to ask whether you got hosed; it was to ponder whether you got hosed while providing a forum for others to wonder about similar questions of trade equality. This has potential to exacerbate the already growing mentality that trading is about value maximization rather than exchanging and sharing quality brews. That is what people have a problem with.

In other news, I checked my Beckett and it appears your trade left you up $0.87 in terms of current value, although the Rue has a greater projected value increase over the next 5 years. Tough call. This of course assumes mint condition for all bottles involved.

I think some of you are misconstruing what he's talking about, more along the lines of letting your desire to try something and uncertainty about the value of what you have make you wonder if what you did was a straight up trade in terms of value and rarity. Not like, "Man, I didn't squeeze every last drop of value out of my beer!" More like, "I traded for two MC, which I really ended up liking, but the Rue was great too, plus it was limit one per person, they're probably not going to make any more of it, I went a little under $4$, and it's trading really well now. I wonder if that trade was really worth it..." Personally, I think it comes down to whether you'd do the same trade again. Of course, lots of people will make the argument that he came up with the trade and got two great beers, so what's the issue? True, we're all adults and no one forces us to do anything. Still, I just read a post on FB about a guy who just traded a '14 Dark Lord for a '14 Assassin. Yeah, the traders both made a choice and got something they wanted, but it'd be hard to argue that one of them didn't lose out on that trade (particularly given all the bitching some people on here love to do about DL ).

It is hard to consider any trade getting hosed. The worth of a beer is in the eye of the traders. For instance. If I am cellaring multiples of a rare beer it is not as with as much as if I am sitting on 1 or 2. If I stood in lines for hours to get a beer than the value to me goes up. I know some areas of Michigan it was extremely difficult for some to get kbs but others are still able to get it. There is also timing. Sometimes friends are doing a certain type of beer night and I want something rare and need it fast. I am willing to give up more to get it faster.

Maybe that Assassin trade would have been a better example to start this thread, as I'm pretty sure most of us would respond to that guy's question of "Did I get hosed?" with "Yes... Yes you did..." Did the guy do it to himself? Sure he did, but he could have gotten quite a few more DLs, and the fact that he didn't makes it sound like he didn't realize that he could. In that case, do you tell the guy he's undervaluing his trade by virtually anyone's estimation, or do you just take the trade and run?

I'm sure some trades that look slanted at first look, probably something as simple as I have multiple bottles of beer x, I'd like to try ____ fill in the blank. Nothing wrong with that .

Get what started? The only answer I can think of based on your OP is "a gripe fest". You're doing it wrong bro, learn from it and do better.

Strangely enough, that question never occurred to me...

@DisturbedGrk When you post a question like that in a help forum there is no other way we are going to take it. We assume you feel hosed.

As for the trade mentioned I would say you "won" the trade having had both beers in the last 3 months. I LOVE MC and I think Rue is real good, but not on the same level.

There is no better way to build community, friendships, or trade partners than to publicly question the value of deals you agreed to.

    Oh, wait.......

You actually won the trade, which is what trading is about.

Make regular trade partners. Then you don't have to worry about this anymore...though you shouldn't worry about it now anyway.
