This idea has been floating around in my head for quite some time. I've traveled back through my memories and written recollections of my favorite beers and styles and have attempted to see what were some of my favorite characteristics of each were. Using the classic sensory categories, I have attempted to recall which beers had the best appearance, scent, taste and mouth feel and create a perfect beer from those. In lieu of creating a "frankenbeer" made up of unrelated types of beer, I've attempted to keep this somewhat style specific.

Recalling these sensory points still helps to bring back the memories of where I was and who I was with the first time I experienced these brews. I can almost smell, taste or feel these beverages just thinking about them. Feel free to play along...

    My Perfect Imperial Stout

Appearance: Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break... near black, thick, creamy brown head, sticky lacing

Scent: Cigar City Hunahpu's Imperial Stout (Laird's Apple Brandy Barrel)... brownies, vanilla, cinnamon, dark-chocolate covered cherries, touch of chili pepper

Taste: Firestone Walker Parabola... espresso, cocoa, vanilla, coconut, dark fruit, bourbon, oak and so much more

Mouth Feel: Mikkellar Beer Geek Brunch Weasel... silky, creamy yet textured, dense but not too heavy

Looks like Hop Ranch, very light colored. Either 100% pale or pilsner malt. Heavy doses of citra, mosaic, and simcoe in the boil. Bittered with chinook to bring the IBUs up. Dry hopped with citra, mosaic, and simcoe for a week. Very bitter and clean on the mouthfeel with simcoe dominating the palate with citra close behind.

Would love to try a Firkin that was a blend of Heady Topper and Abrasive with a Mosaic dry hop added.

I too find them similar in taste. Side-by-side they are a little different but I couldn't decide which I liked better. So why not combine 'em?

Sucks kind of tastes like old Abrasive. Sweeter. I also find it has more of the "arm pit"/onion thing going on.
