What's good or new in Seattle right now? Buddy there and said he would stop at a beer shop for me. Thank you!
Leave it to Washingtonians to answer a thread titled "Seattle beer" with a bunch of Oregon beers. Yesterday I picked up a Reuben's Brews Crikey IPA, which I'm about to open... I've head that one is good. Really anything from Reuben's is going to be decent. Also, Fremont The Brother... and I think I saw Fremont Oak Aged Dark Start w/ Hazelnut & Peppercorn @ Last Drop recently, but that is pretty specific. EDIT: Yes, it's good.
Maaaybeee, I answered that way to help keep our beer non-rare? Or….. did the Oregon beer pop in my head first and I'm guilty as charged? . . . .
Reuben's Crikey, Reuben's Imperial CDA, Reuben's Imperial Oatmeal Stout is still lingering on shelves, Fremont Bourbon Abominable (still on shelves ... at least at places like chucks, malt & vine, QFC), Fremont The Brother DIPA in cans, Laurelwood Megafauna (not everywhere and not seattle, but if you see it ...), Black Raven's Son of Birdserker is good if you're into session IPAs (though their barrel aged stuff is where it's at). Logsdon's Oak Aged Bretta has recently landed ... Midnight Sun's Bar Fly and Berserker are around ... Upright's Flora has hit shops. Two Beers is normally pretty "meh" but their fresh hop and single hop HBC 366 beer are good. My suggestion is to have your friend hit a place like Bottleworks or The Beer Junction and ask for guidance. If he's into beer, he should also hit the Toronado opening tomorrow ... DDG on tap.
Thank you guys for already having some info in this thread, my parents in Seattle with the same offer. As it's 'parents' not 'buddy' my offer comes with a couple limitations, so I'll ask for a couple suggestions that meet the criteria I was given: Easily found. They aren't going to hunt anything down; if I can send them to a specific place (brewpub, bottle shop) they'll try to go, or better yet if it's something that can be found anywhere in town, but they aren't going to check 5 places for me. Bottles/cans over growlers. They aren't experienced at travelling with beer, so packing something sealed in their luggage is preferable to a growler. While I will be happy with anything I can't get my hands on in my area, I'd be happier with something exceptional/hyper local (to use a local example, Tired Hands). Or, something world-class even if not Seattle-made (Logsdon's is already on my list, but that's what I'm going for). I also wouldn't mind the location of a top notch bottle shop I can send them to where they could call me once they get there with what they've found. Thank you all in advance for the additional suggestions.
Do they live in Seattle proper? If so, what neighborhood? If you know what neighborhood, we could make this as painless as possible for your parents. Less travel, hassle = More willingness
If they are downtown, send them to Pear Delicatessen, where they can hit Pikes Place at the same time. Central District/Cap Hill, go to Chucks. North of Lake Union, go to Bottleworks, Greenlake go to the other Chucks. If south of the city, go to 99 Bottles in Fed Way, north of the city, Special Brews in Lynnwood.
Their hotel is about a mile from Bottleworks, so I'll probably send them there. @HoppySeb has been a great help.
