The last three stouts I've drank I didn't enjoy, and one of them, up to now, I was calling my favorite beer of all time (Founder's Imperial Stout).

I did have a bad experience a few weeks ago when, after not having much to eat all day, I came home from work and drained a bomber of RuinTen back to back with a bomber of Stone IRS and blacked out on my couch with my last memory being of following my girlfriend to the bedroom with the full intention of going to sleep, you know, in my bed. Would this have anything to do with it? I just don't know why, all of a sudden, I'm not enjoying what has in the past been my favorite style and my favorite beers. What do?

Give the stouts a rest for a while. One day sooner or later you'll think to yourself ' I could murder a stout right about now ' I went through something similar many years ago with several rips on the bong and half a tray of Stella Artois

This too shall pass...not so easy to say for a buddy of mine who similarly blacked out on his couch one night in high school. Unfortunately, he was naked and discovered in the morning, by his Mom.

I'm guessing this will pass. Wouldn't lose sleep over it. Drink something else you enjoy for a while.

There are a lot of factors. I wouldn't put much thought into the Stone night you had. Palettes change, especially if diets change. Age is another potential factor; Founders Imperial Stout is getting close to a year old at this point - it's going to taste different than what it did when it was fresh. Weather can also be a factor - a stout may be a bit heavier than most prefer on 90+ degree days & may leave you feeling a bit "off," etc.

Yeah. Normally I crave imperial stouts year-round, but for a while now they just have not sounded good to me. Of course, I fully enjoyed Vampire Slayer and Imperial Doughnut Break just a month or two ago. It just seems so odd for my palate to have shifted so suddenly. Now I'm craving wine (and drinking, and enjoying it).

I had the same problem, drank Stouts non stop, then I got sick (not from drinking) and can barely get through them now. Giving it a rest for a bit and will come back soon. Packers as and stouts go well together

Maybe your girlfriend is pregnant and you're being affected by the hormones?

This is normal. Same thing happened when I downed a 4 pack of FIS last winter.. I'd get sick even thinking of stouts. It may take a couple months but the cravings will come back trust me

I got a stomach flu 2 years back and, for some reason, my stomach turned at the thought of anything overly hoppy (ie. IPA). It passed, but took about a month for my stomach to get its act together. It will pass and you'll be enjoying Stouts sooner or later.

I've been on an IPA kick for years but suddenly, not really so into it Now I'm doing the stout thing which is something I was into once before in the past. Just go with the flow There's enough out there to drink!

Actually, toward the end of my IPA relationship I found that I was enjoying more straight IPA's than the bigger and bigger I was getting into. Doubles and triples, imperials or whatever. DFH 60 minute suddenly became my go to.

Now IPA is out and the stout age has begun!!!

    God speed my friend.

I was especially distressed after I bought a whole bunch of FIS and Bell's Expy, both nearly a year old that I found just sitting, collecting dust at a local Giant Eagle, and it turns out I don't even like them! I guess I'll just throw them in storage until the winter months and do a side-by-side with this year's stouts. Should I keep them in my fridge or store them a little warmer than that?

Agree with the general consensus here. If your palate has changed for the time being, don't fight it. I go through periods where my palate just plain gets burned out on a particular type or flavor profile.

I find going back to basics helps a lot too. Instead of high-complexity, crazy ABV stouts, perhaps ratchet down to a more simple Irish Dry Stout or some such thing. I find things like that often help "reset" the palate.

    Hope this helps.

Didn't you read the label? It clearly says, "CAUTION: If you drink back to back stouts and then follow your girlfriend to the bedroom you will lose your taste for stouts FOREVER."
