I am trying to try as many stouts on the Top250 list with a group of friends. I have put out a few ISO postings without much luck. I am in AL, we have good beers but not much that is extremely rare and our breweries cannot sell direct so nothing that is Brewery Only release. Biggest gets are Westbrook, Terrapin, Cigar City (core), Jester King, and locals (GP and STA). I am looking for any info on bottle counts and what is realistically attainable from the list below. So far I have been able to get MZ, BCBS, KBS and Huna. I left off several that I knew were very rare and hard to get, but was not sure on some of the others below:

    FW Parabola
    BCBCS
    Backyard Rye BCBS
    Prop BCBS
    Prairie Bomb!
    Surly Darkness
    3F Dark Lord
    Assassin
    KBBS
    Deschutes The Abyss
    BB Speedway Stout
    VC Speedway Stout
    Event Horizon

Any feedback or info is appreciated.

    Matt

    BB Speedway

    No Chance:
    KBBS

Assassin and KBBS are a pipe dream but the rest should be attainable, its a matter of waiting for the releases and striking then. Prop BCS will take some effort.

It was brought to my attention I left CW16 off the list as well as the expansive list of stouts from The Bruery. I am going to Asheville in a few months and hope to stock up on Bruery there. I left off Speedway Stout (original) because I have a pending trade and Mexican Cake because I can get it here.

You mention a few of the breweries you get but don't mention specific beers. I'd say that will determine how easily attainable anything on your wants list is, though you could try for the quantity over quality thing which could get expensive.

And c'mon, I think you knew your chances on Assassin and KBBS before posting

You need to have a chat with @zookerman182 , this guy is from Alabama too, i call him the whale slayer. If he can do it so can you. Im sure he can give you some tips on what people will trade from your distro to get what you want.
    Good luck.

The Bruery beers in the Top 250 are mostly society exclusive beers that don't see distribution. You'll have to trade for them

Don't tell me the fact that he is a rookie AND he's looking for stouts on Top 250 that you couldn't figure out that he mistakenly wrote Russian River Parabola instead of Firestone Walker Parabola.

Got me to wonder...why doesn't Russian River make a killer Russian Imperial stout? I'd imagine a BA version would be freakin' amazing given the quality of their other styles.

My bad, I confused RR and FW. Thanks blue-dream, my bad.

I also appreciate the generosity of people in this thread. I have had multiple people message me about beers listed. I really enjoy BA and glad I got signed up here!

Yea really, looks like they have only brewed a couple stouts/porters.

I really did not know much about either, hence wanting to try them. I have been looking at FS threads for over a month, but sometimes it is hard to tell what gets done since their are lots of options offered and most communication is via Messages. So I was just asking, I know now they are probably not achievable.

Yes I have taken the quantity approach as well. Top beers here are:
Westbrook - Full Line including Mexican Cake (I have Captn Skoons from 2012 and Orange Bliss form 2013 also)
Terrapin - Full Line including limited releases
Good People - 6 Pack Cans-IPA, Pale Ale, Brown, Coffee Oatmeal Stout, and Snake Handler DIPA (once a year), growlers are also possible
Straight to Ale - 6 Pack Cans including Monkeynaut IPA, 22oz bottles including Gorillanaut DIPA, Laika RIS, and others including barrel aged variants)

We also get a lot from Jester King and Boulevard, which I was surprised to see are not in many states. Have traded using Boulevard beers several times.

It looks to me like you are doing everything you possibly can.
The key here is to develope good relationships with trade partners in different parts of the US.
I've learned that it's always a good idea to overdue it when trading or just be generous and send some stuff for no reason.
Trying to win every trade won't get you anywhere. (Not saying that's what you are doing)
From my own experience in Huntsville I've found that the barrel aged laikas, Mexican cake and the limited terrapin do the best but still aren't enough to land the big boys. That's where you have to get creative with the beers that you get in trade combined with locals. It's an expensive process, and frustrating one because we do get some amazing beer here that nobody knows about.
when snake handler gets canned again this fall it should trade pretty well. Also westbrook gose was HOT for a little while.
You just have to keep your eye on the forums and know what stuff usually trades for.
Although the trading in Alabama is tough, we are fortunate to have so many solid local beers.

Totally agree with all your points. We have great local breweries but they are not known at a regional or national level yet. I have a couple regular trading partners and hope to add a few more. I always add extras because they are awesome to get and receive as well! Thanks for the info and maybe we can meet up sometime for a beer. I live north of Bham and only about an hour or so from huntsville.
