That's the big question, though. One could I think fairly persuasively argue that, though the number of hyped beers may have increased, so too has the market for them. More and more craft drinkers, more and more folks willing to shell out big bucks for releases, etc. = increased demand. Strong demand is gonna keep those prices high.

I'm not suggesting there won't be any movement, but I fear that we're starting to move into that era where certain beers -- not unlike certain wines -- command a major premium and will continue to do so.

So many naive traders out there. Worst advice of the past year was to not bother trading for MD/KBBS, because its being made again and will be easier to trade for. Unless there's a fairly big increase in production, value is only going to climb for the best beers in the world.

Sure, they'll never scale up production because it's too hard to brew. Just like GI will never make Vanilla again because it clogs the tanks.

Better advice, wait for founders to release CBS again, it killed KBBS in my opinion and will be relatively easy to get.

The thing that I don't get is that this is 12 oz. I have seen some pretty crazy offers out there (one right now that is trading a DBH, Port Damon, Bourbon Damon AND CD6) and IF I had a bottle, I would hit reply...fast.

I like this beer, it is very good. Is it the best beer ever made, possibly. Is it worth what has been offered, no.

I think people that have a KBBS to trade are looking for a specific trade (bottle(s) or quantity) which is why some of these trades don't appear to be happening.

I think my wife would trade hers for multiple Fou Founes but they may about it....she's a tough one that always tries to win trades.

Yeah, I'd feel pretty shitty then trading for $200 like some of these offers. I understand rarity, but there's a point where you're just screwing someone over

Gotta disagree here. It's not like the people offering up all this beer do not understand the cost disparity. They know full well they are trading waaayyyyy over $4$ and oz4oz and giving away several world class beers that are nearly as good. They still make such offer because there's so few to trade, so you have to top the previous offers to have a chance at a bottle. They all know this.

I was one of the people giving that advice. Color me 100% wrong. I shouldn't continue to be surprised in so many ways by the exponential growth in demand, but I am. Constantly. Maybe someday the madness will abate somewhat. See? I did it again.

That said, nobody has stated the obvious. This was a "local, stealth" release at 1 per person. Contrary to popular opinion, not every human being is on BA. I'd wager a ton of these bottles went to folks from IA who are just going to drink them & have never heard of 'trading beer'. The amount of bottles on the 'trading block' is probably tiny. Smile at the trade forum & just move along.

Let me tell you guys a little bit about why KBBS seems to be trading so high. This is just my opinion, but I also spent a couple hours drinking at the taproom yesterday during the release and watched the whole thing go down.

The biggest reason so many people are getting crickets on trade offers is that there just aren't that many KBBS available. Only 300 were released. I sat at the taproom during most of the release. I'd guess that well over 50% of the bottles that went out, went to Decorah locals who have never heard of Beer Advocate and don't realize that trading even exists. The taproom wasn't crazy busy. It was people slowly meandering in after they got off work for a pint, seeing KBBS for sale, and deciding that, "yea, I might like a bottle of that to try." So there's about 200 or so that will never even be considered to be traded. This isn't like a big announced release, where everyone in line is a beer fan. These bottles went to the locals that support this brewery everyday by heading there after work at 430pm and buying a Dorothy's or two.

Next, this was limit one, so the fifty or so beer nerds who I saw show up, only got one. Most of those people won't be putting their only bottle up for trade. There were maybe 10-15 people who got multiples of this beer, and maybe some of those will be put up on this site.

So, in my best guess, maybe 10-20 bottles of KBBS will make it to this site, and that's over the next few months to a year. So why are you getting crickets? Your offer isn't necessarily considered low by the KBBS holders. Maybe they just don't want BVDL, so a 1:1 BVDL trade that looks crazy good to most people doesn't look good to the 10-15 who have it. You've got to hit their sweet spot. Maybe they aren't ready to trade yet. And maybe, there aren't really any being traded. Of course, it's also possible that people are waiting to try to "win" the trading game. What do I know?

Just my opinion. Bash away, fellas.

yep, agreed. 400 bottles, maybe 1/4 of the people who happened to be there are active traders? this leaves not much.

edit: better numbers from me above, good stuff

What are your thoughts on BVDL? Costs more per ounce and you also must buy a ticket to have the chance to have the chance to purchase it. I don't think $15 is bad for KBBS and I really don't think $50 is terrible for how great BVDL is. My point is that cost and rarity are not only a concern with KBBS

I can get on board with this logic. All I was saying was it seems that some grossly overvalue their beer.
