A friend brought his bottle to a share and it was a gusher with a horrible diaper smell. It was way over carbonated, but taste still had apples and cinnamon. Didn't taste infected, but won't be surprised if it sours later. The beer is not pasteurized, but I'd be surprised if just heat caused the yeast to rouse the yeast into over carbing the beer and producing a garbage aroma.

Nothing bad has happened to my 3 MBCP bottles I've opened that I improperly stored on my room temp California shelves (75-80 F).

I've had 2 bottles and they were both delicious. No rotten smell or gushing

I too got the rotten smell. My bottle fizzed up about 3 ounces of the beer and mine tasted rotten. My son in law who brought the bottle said it tasted nothing like he had at the brewery.

How is privately emailing the brewery more "scaring the brewery" than posting it in a public forum??

Nothing wrong with putting it up on the forum as it helps people know that there could be the chance of a bad trade if you get an infected bottle. I agree that they should contact the brewery to let them know what happened but it is a service to the rest of us that they are posting here as well.

I have a bottle that I bought at the brewery and has been sitting in my cellar because I was tentatively waiting until Thanksgiving weekend to open with some of my family. I wonder if I should drink it sooner now? A friend of mine that bought his at the brewery with me drank his recently and said it was fantastic - even better than on draft at the brewery the day of the release.

I did not want to send the brewery an e-mail and bother them if I was the only person with this issue. I figured this would be a good place to ask questions, because from what I've read most of you are very friendly and helpful. I have sent the brewery a private email and let them know this is not an isolated incident. I hope that Funky Buddha does right by the customers as I'm sure they will.

thanks to my boy @BlumBeer I got to drink one just a couple nights ago...he warned me too. But we cracked it, the initial aromas weren't the greatest, but honestly weren't the worst either. Certainly nothing as pronounced as "raw sewage," or "farts," or anything else I've read this week. It actually reminded me of over-fermented or mildly rotting apples, like apples that fall from a tree and just sit in the grass in the sun for weeks on end.

But as it warmed up and we let our glasses just sit there for a bit, it was fine, even the smell. Reminded me very much of apples & cinnamon. And the taste, wow, the taste was rather sublime. My buddy's wife described it as warm apple cobbler with a scoop of melting French vanilla ice cream. Yeah it was that good.

If anyone's worried about their bottles, I'll dispose of them for you. :grinning:
