I'm not looking for "under-rated" beers here. I'm looking for beers that (good rating or not) is something you look at as an exemplar or top-notch brew that is rarely or under-discussed.

I hereby elect Sixpoint's Sweet Action. Remarkably complex, ultra refreshing, and almost undefinable. This beer rocks my world. No matter how many times I try it, I notice something new and/or am impressed by its fantastic-ness every time.

Karl Strauss Big Barrel DIPA. last batch which they poured at Sierra Nevada Beer Camp in SD. I have had this beer before maybe a year earlier and it completely changed. I gave a pour to someone and asked what they thought it was and mentioned was in disbelief. said if I told him it was pliny he would have believed. Lighter body and hopper.

I kind of look at the category you're shooting for as more "under appreciated", or maybe "under name-dropped", either way I understand the subject material. My big one in this category is Sierra Nevada Kellerweis. Such a great hefe; something you don't see US breweries doing right most of the time, but this one is spot on. Tons of flavor and a low ABV make it incredibly sessionable.

I also would suggest Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale; an excellent APA every bit as good as SNPA, but gets little to no press. Alas, pale ales aren't exactly "exciting", so the lack of press is understandable.

Good one! Kellerweis is fantastic and completely under-mentioned.

Pretty much anything from Odell. No hype, never talked about, amazing beers. IPA, Myrcenary, Double Pils, St. Lupulin, Cutthroat...take your pick.

Given that they are made in Vermont the land of The Alchemist, Lawson's Finest and Hill's Farmstead. I think that Fiddlehead is over looked with there Second Fiddle and Mastermind DIPA's and also there Hodad Porter

Anything by Jester King that's not a sour. They make absolutely top notch farmhouse ales but I never hear anyone mention them.

    +1.

Plus Runoff Red, Friek, 90 Schilling, Levity, Lugene, Isolation. Miss the shit out of them since moving out of state. Every time I see a picture of Myrcenary on a WBYDN thread I salivate.

Another one for me from Colorado I think fits is Funkwerks. Their flagship Saison and Deceit are two of my absolute favorite beers. And so many of their rotating and/or one-offs are also great, though I get their limited distribution does impact the ability for them to generate any kind of buzz.

Also, I only tried Sweet Action once but I really enjoyed it. Not too familiar with that beer style, but of the few examples I have tried Sweet Action is levels above the others examples i have tried.

Its really great to hear you say that. The brewers have worked really hard on this beer and that even means reapproaching all aspects of its creation - grain bill, hop scheduling, mashing procedure, fermentation regime, and even the co2 levels in the finished product. It is very satisfying to see the hard work manifest in happy smiles on the customers. Thanks for the feedback!

Big Sky Moose Drool. Avery Ellie's Brown Ale. Both of those are fantastic. Brown ales are "boring" to people, and that's ridiculous. They are very tasty. I also think ESBs are underrated, that is a great style.

Been thinking about Big Barrel ever since I last had it. So under the radar but really just nails the style, though my last experience didn't find it especially dry. Actually thought it a bit rich/wet, but in the best way possible. Would drink the crap out of that if I found it more often.
