I have never tried this beer. A However, I recently discovered that it was owned by Inbev. AKA Anheuser Bush. So, I will likely never try it for philosophical reasons as much as anything else. People go on and on about it, but it sickens me to think that this and its offshoots are among the top 20 beers in the world. What do people think of this in regard to the "craft" beer aspect of this and all beers coming from Goose Island?

Good beer is good beer. Too bad In-Bev/AB owns them. Tried it for the first time last year and plan on buying it again this time around. You should too. Don't miss out on something this great.

I commend your decision, and wholeheartedly encourage others to follow the same pursuit. Why on earth someone will pay as much money for this swill I can never understand. Yes sir, you are on the right path, continue on. Meanwhile, elsewhere.....someone is more optimistic of landing a bottle this year around...

If you brew great beer, I will drink it. As simple as that.

They were highly regarded far before inbev stepped into the picture.

ur in the minority. BCBS is the go to barrel aged imperial stout everyone tries to copy. And for good reason too. It's that good. But to answer your question. It's actually brewed by goose island who was sold to AB-Inbev. But does it really matter who makes the beer? It's not like Ab-Inbev is destroying the earth or harming your family (as far as I know). So why does it really matter, or I should say why do u really care who it's brewed by?

But in the end I guess it's more for everyone else.

BCBS was around long before AB bought goose island.

It's a damn good beer, there is a reason that all varieties are so highly sought after. They are what most BA's want a high quality beer distributed almost nationwide. Ab-inbev hasn't done any shady dealings for bcbs taps or accounts to my knowledge.
As many have said a good beer is a good beer. It isn't barrel aged bud heavy. It's an amazing base beer and the variants are great. They made world class beer before they were bought out and they still make world class beers. Go ahead don't drink it, leave more for us that enjoy good beer and don't ride a high horse

This...BCBS/variants existed before Goose was bought out and the standard of excellence to which it is held has not fallen one bit.

Good decision though, I stand by you wholeheartedly. That Vanilla Rye is going to taste awful, anyway.

I still don't understand people hating on GI for selling to InBev. They got a big payday after years of work, their distribution footprint grew exponentially in no time, and they no longer have to spend all their time brewing their flagship beers and get to apply their skills and experience on all kinds of new beers. It's a win-win-win. And believer it or not, and this is the part that people have a hard time with, it is InBev supporting craft beer. You don't get to be a big, successful longstanding company without following trends. Being successful and getting rich are in fact not evil. And I've always been broke and haven't succeeded at anything in my life.

To each his own. Don't do any research on any other brewers practices, beliefs, etc... you may end up with a short list of breweries you feel ok buying from.

My problem which I should have clarified is that I am aware that this brewery existed before it was purchased by a huge MNC, but the fact remains that it is now owned by them. It may be the best stuff in the world, I will never know and at this point don't care to. Its just another way AB is getting their foot into the craft industry because without doing this they lose money and that is their primary goal. If left up to them they would most likely buy out every small reputable brewery in the world. But, I will say again they won't be getting any of my money. Surely there are just as good or even better barrel aged stouts out there? I know of one very close to home that is probably as good or better and they use quality ingredients and made with integrity. I don't work for them or have any connection to them and that is why I will leave it unsaid as to who they are. But, I hope more guys like them fight to beat down the big guys hiding as smaller "craft" brewers.

re: people hating on the sale, historically, BMC ownership and influence has meant "dumbed down" beer. that said, goose island beer has only gotten better and more readily available.

re: evil, think that power and money don't corrupt all you want, but your ideology and opinions don't mean much at the end of the day. actual poverty, violence, etc, that stuff matters. small businesses going broke due to illegal tactics by large competitors makes a tangible difference. it doesn't matter whether BAs approve of it or not.

re: "you don't get to be a big successful lonstanding company without" ...good marketing, graft, leveraging political connections, incidental crime, etc. usually. success is not evil, but much of what is effective to get (and stay) successful is. often illegal too.

happily, all that said, the consequences of the GI acquisition appear to have been positive.

there really aren't. sometimes them's the breaks. BCBS is actually the best.

edit: this too is kind of a trend, just like corporate criminality. first of a genre is usually the best (cf film, music). they generally innovate beyond what is copied... at least that seems to be a big part of it. also GI's accumulated barrel knowledge shows in the product.

People aren't "hating on GI for selling to AB/InBev" Goose Island is gone and exists in name only. It is AB/InBev that people have a problem with.

Your statement "It is InBev supporting craft beer." Is the most incorrect ridiculous statement I have read on here in the longest time. AB/InBev wants to destroy craft beer. They want to destroy every brewer out there that isn't under their umbrella. If you believe otherwise, you are kidding yourself.

That's available as much as BCBS and for that price? Not a chance.

And tell me, what about BCBS isn't a quality ingredient, and what part of Goose Island's brewing is without integrity?

Olde Hickory stuff is not even close to BCBS. Avery Uncle Jacob's is as good as BCBS or even better.

I've had a lot of NC beers, and obviously there are so many I've also not had a lot of NC beers. But the BBA beers I can think of, Silent night, various by Foothills, et cetera, don't compare to BCBS.

I commend you on your decision. We may be in the minority but there are others that feel the same.
You should look for the full list of AB/InBev holdings. you may be surprised by some of their brands.
