Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash. As good as it gets and in 4 packs, not bombers

From this thread it sounds very interesting, but I am in DFW and it looks like Crown Valley is only in San Antonio? I will be down in San Antonio in a couple weeks, hopefully I can pick some up then. I will be coming down I-35 and then taking 410 South to Southwest SA if anybody can recommend a store that will have Pumpkin Smash.

If it is looking like it will be a limited release and not available in 2 weeks would any kind SA BA pick up a 4 pack for me?

It's also in Austin/Round Rock, and I've seen it in almost every HEB I've been in, so don't think it's real limited

I guess I'm the only person that can't stand pumpkinator. My homebrew club last year did a pumpkin tasting and pumpkinator aged and fresh we unanimously the worst beers of the night. Karbach was voted in the top two or three from what I recall. All pumpkin beers are way to spiced for me. @Splat924 punkin is like 7.5% abv I believe, not very sessionable in my book. Fall is always my least favorite beer season, with exception of wet hop beers.

This. just picked up a couple 4-packs over the weekend. I generally like pumpkin foods (pumpkin pie, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin bread, etc) but have very few pumpkin beers that i can tolerate. In fact, the only one that i even will bother buying is Schlafly Pumpkin....until i had the Lakefront Imperial Pumpkin. It is an outstanding brew. With the vanilla and pumpkin and a slight bit of the brandy barrel it is like an "adult" pumpkin shake! Real smooth, tons of flavor, creamy mouthfeel...can't say enough good things about it.

Best Pumpkin beer I've had was Almanac's Heirloom Pumpkin Barleywine. That stuff is the shit!

I like pumpkinator but think the mouthfeel is too thin for the spice bill IMO...the Crown Valley one has a far superior stout base IMO.

I don't really care for it either. I get why people like it. And those who like the mouthfeel and thickness of pumpkinator should really try that Crown Valley. Its very similar maybe thicker and only $10 a 4 pack and 10%. I can't kill an entire bottle of pumpkinator without it becoming just too much.

I used to like Pumpkinator until they dry spiced it last year. Why change something that everyone already seemed to like?

Last years batch was too spiced fresh, but with just a month or two of age i thought it mellowed nicely.

For the record I decided to give Crown Valley a try because of your tweet several weeks back about it. Glad I did.

Just drank a Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale. It's pretty fuckin tasty. I never would have thought to pick up anything from Alltech/Lexington Brewing, but there is a lot of barrel in it. I really need to try the stout and Barleywine.

From what I know, Austin Specialty Foods is currently the only distributor in Texas of Crown Valley - and they seem to be sticking to Travis. Has anyone else picked them up?

Completely agree. I had one fresh that was a spice bomb, but the second one I opened was delicious.
