Just a heads up I just ran into some 6'ers of this at my local grocery store. Surprised as this shouldn't be out until next month but it was bottled in August.

Not sure if anyone else has had it come in yet but looks like it's arrived early in SE Michigan.

I want to say it was bottled in August, released in September last years as well. I am guessing they are able to find a break in the brew schedule once the wind down Oberon for the year.

I also saw the 2014 third coast old ale while I was back home in MI over the weekend. I think it is a little early this year too.

Was really expecting to see that this years was a little off from last years. There is, in fact, a light at the end of the tunnel

Best regularly attainable non-BA imperial stout.

    I'd put FIS above it.

Fresh side by side I agree. Put 2+ years on Expy and it's hands down the winner.

Fresh is always a heated debate between me and my friends, but I still prefer expo. More complex profile.

My local shop in SE MI just got this in as well. Excited to grab some after work!
Just blend them! Debate over.

Pt5 beats both fresh, but not as easy to come by. Aged Expedition is always king.

Any idea if it has hit Chicago yet? Looking to almost complete a 10 year vertical with the '14...

Aged Expy wins hands down over all imperial stouts.

i just think expedition stout is just wayyy too hoppy when it first hits market. 6 months later i think its really nice though

See, that's how I feel about FIS. I think the bitterness in fresh FIS tends to overpower some of the nice stuff going on in the background. I also like my stouts thick, and Expy seems thicker to me, though I don't think I've ever done a side-by-side. Maybe once this hits shelves in Washtenaw County...

Yer clearly mistaken. Founders Imperial Stout is what they're referencing. It has no bitterness/hoppy flavors. It is also thicker.

Hope the general store has two year old bottles again

I think it's more of a smoky bitterness rather than a hoppy one, I should have made the distinction.

And yes, FIS = Founder's Imperial Stout. I don't follow what you meant by your second sentence.

Is this normal? I stumbled upon 2+ year old expedition stout a few times while stopping at the store. Once was in June, which didn't seem like the right time of year for Exp Stout. Was nice to have the old stouts around the campfire on a cool Michigan spring evening. A pleasant surprise.
