A co worker who has drank Indio, Modelo ,Victoria ,and a few others for years has discovered Sam Adams lager . He doesn't like dark beers ,but wants lagers that are not bitter. I want to send him to Binnys in the Chicago area to build his own six pack . What are your suggestions?

Not sure what in your area so I'll just say: Pilsners, Amber lagers, Steam beer, maybe try a blonde ale and pale wheat ale.
I think those styles are pretty easy drinking and would appeal to someone that likes lighter beers.

Yuengling, Brooklyn Lager, Coney island lager, Longboard Lager, Anchor Lager. Those are a good starting place and are pretty smooth.

Since he hasn't ever drank "beer", pretty much anything goes! Get him some old english 800 or Moosehead and he'll be happy. Not like he will know any better without having anything "real" to compare it to! .....or maybe a wine cooler or some other kind of girley drink! Lol!

You won't get Yuengling in Illinois.

Victory Lager, Anchor Steam, Fat Tire

I 2nd these 2 options. World class easy drinkers IMO. Heck, throw in the Fitz Porter to try and see if he comes around to darker beers. That one may change his mind.

Palate Wrecker, Bell's Two Hearted, Ruination, Resin, Double Trouble, and a bottle of water. Might as well start at the right place.

He might want to try some Oktoberfest beers. I really like Great Lakes Oktoberfest, Left Hand Oktoberfest, and Leinenkugel's Big Eddy Uber Oktoberfest.

Gotta love Binny's! Fat tire was a great idea, Good Oktoberfest beer might be a good choice, and there are usually some in the pick your own six section. Bells Amber is a fine place to get into craft beer. As far as good local Chicago stuff, Gossamer by Half Acre was a very nice easy drinking blonde ale.

Is this a friend type coworker? Are they open minded about trying new things? Could an option be going some place that offers tasting flights and introducing some different beers that way? Kind of a guided tour, if you will?

It's hard to help people develop their tastes - everybody reacts so differently and @ipamonster beat me to it - they don't know what they don't know. Like the commercial - you won't try almond milk because you don't know what it tastes like... Maybe think back to some "transition" beers that you enjoyed yourself? If you just send somebody off to the store, lord knows what they might buy (I guess that is why you asked) and sometimes that can have the opposite effect - drive somebody back to "safety"...

Sounds like he's partial to Vienna lagers. I'd look up that style and see what you can find for him. A great one, for example is Great Lakes Elliot Ness. Metropolis makes a good kolsch and lager, too. As mentioned above, marzen (Oktoberfest) styles might be up his allley. If you can get Jinxproof, by 3 Floyds, that is an awesome lager. A lot of the beers mentioned in the above posts are all excellent choices.
