Summit Oatmeal Stout is not only excellent locally, but stands alongside any of the great oatmeal stouts brewed in the US. On tap only, but very available.

I'd second the recommendations here for the Summit Oatmeal Stout and the Moo Joos, and that's coming from someone who isn't usually crazy about milk stouts. The best local stout I've had since I've been here is the Big Boat Oatmeal Stout from Fitger's in Duluth.

Mankato Brewing is making a mint stout this winter.

I missed The Villain at the State Fair but had Summit Oatmeal Stout on nitro instead and it was delightful. I am a fan of Darkness, War and Peace, and Worthy Adversary. Foundation and Silhouette were okay and I have not tried Flat Earth Black Helicopter or LB Irish Coffee.

I enjoyed Olaf The Stout by HammerHeart in Lino Lakes. Had this at The Beer Dabbler last weekend. It was my first beer, so that's not even a tainted palate talking.

Thanks all. Picking up a bunch today. Last night I tried a Stout from Badger Hill, someone said local out of Minnetonka but moving. Excellent beer. Was expecting a sweet stout but it was dry and roasty, super example IMHO. I will keep an eye out for Summit and look forward to my haul tonight.

I've been talking up the MN

Barley John's Dark Knight is spendy, but excellent.

Usually comes out around Halloween, but I felt the need to redeem myself from my earlier post with all those non local options:confused:

They have been sharing a brewery with Lucid and Bad Weather. They are in the process of building their own brewery/taproom in Shakopee. information

That is an excellent stout. And by far the best beer that I have had from BH. Unfortunately, I have only ever seen it on tap at one place that I rarely go to, called JJ's.

Go to Hammerheart in Lino Lakes and drink any stout or porter they have.

Flanary's Brew- a smoked oatmeal stout, Olaf the Stout- a big, bold, delicious imperial stout, Runestone- a subtly barrel aged wonder of a beer, Thor's Imperial Porter- probably the best hot pepper stout/porter I've ever had, Black Cascade- a Black IPA, but hey, still a delicious beer.

I also love Indeed Midnight Ryder- again, it's not a stout, it's a hoppy black ale/black IPA, but it's a damn good beer, relatively cheap, readily available, and seems to hit the spot when I'm in the mood for something on the darker end of the spectrum.

Flanary's Brew was really nice, and the smoke is subtle. Zeke's Unchained Animal had it on tap in Mpls a few weeks ago.

One that hasn't been mentioned yet is Morning Wood Coffee Stout by Big Wood Brewing. If you can get over the name, it's a decent tasting coffee stout. Available in cans - 4 pack of pounders.
