Found 5 or 6 bottles in NPR if anyone's interest. Last brewed around 6/13. No real name on store. 19N past Main St. Blue sign Wine and Liquors. Anyone interested. Worth a try.
That beer was really good fresh, I can't imagine how old those bottles are. Are you sure they bottled some in 6/13? It seems like years ago since they bottled Papaya or any Jai Alai fruited varients. If I lived there I would buy them just to see how they taste. Sometimes you can find some fun stuff in those rarely visited off the path liquor stores.
Funny gun haver, customer service told me last brewed a year ago. So do they not know what's up or you.
Being that @gunhaver works for CCB I'd go with him. Maybe don't trust any place selling IPAs that are 4 years old (or even their claimed year old)
Guess you didn't read where Cigar City customer service told me it was last brewed a year ago. Now what say you. Last 3 reviews on this site are from July and Aug. 2014. Got scores of 4.25, 5 and 4.75. I give it a 4. I agree, year old IPA(let alone 3) would get a pass. Figured what the heck. Was worth it. But I can't justify buying more at 9.99 for 2 glasses when a 6 of Jai Alai costs the same. Figured I pass the word. Have done the same thing when I've found Marshall Zuchov on the shelves. Oh well
Yeah, umm, you didn't say CCB customer service for one. Secondly, they brew small batches of all sorts of fun stuff all the time. Most of those kegs are kept in house, not announced, and not sent out (though some special kegs can go out on occasion to special accounts). That said, it hasn't been bottled in 4 years, which is clearly what gunhaver said.
Thanx. Wasn't trying to open a can of worms. And yeah, I called Cigar City customer service. I never clarified that. They told me last brewed about 1 year ago. Also I don't touch IPAS after 3 months usually. I cringe when I read about someone drinking year old Hopslam or whatever.
Just finished my second bottle. Pretty goddam good. I'll keep buying it. Guess I'm not sophisticated enough to know it sucks. In the last couple of years I've found some wicked good stuff in obscure stores. Found Sea Bass (one I tried tasted like a cross between vinegar and Gator sperm. What didn't EXPLODE all over the kitchen. One I gave away supposedly drank good), Guava Groove which was awesome. Found a case of Avery the Czar from 2008 and some Marshall Zuchov(hate RIP so I posted the shop here. Both were gone the next day). Would have loved to tried the papaya fresh. Owner of the shop, Arab cat, says he thinks his other shop might have some older CCW. Gonna get back to me.
far be it from me to tell you if the beer is good to *you* or not, but just know that the beer has changed drastically from what CCB originally had in mind when making that beer.
Got a feeling it might have been awesome fresh. I had some Argus IPA. Couldn't find a date. Good price. Not drain pour bad but after the first one made sure I didn't drink it till I'd had a couple of good beers. Finally found one that I could read the date. 8 months old. I wouldn't buy it again if it was coming out of the tank. And Blum beer : I also can't stomach RIS. How's that for unsophisticated. I've tried and tried. Worse one ever was Hanaphu (don't know if I spelled it right). I know sacrilege, right? Sours also. My wallet thanks me and more for you folks that love it.
I bet most of you snobs pour your beer into a glass. I personally prefer my jai alai straight from the bottle.
