There are active users on this site that were present at said tastings, so not sure why the rolly eyes. I'm not bragging, trust me. I was a fool to spend the amount of money it took to get some of the stuff we had.

After looking up "Baby's First Pee," I got the idea that it would be kind of funny for a bunch of BAs to go through all of these and rate them on untappd. Not so rare anymore now, are they?!

I see it this way , if the guys can afford it and it's what they enjoy, good for them. I'm not going to judge a guy because he can afford something I either cannot or choose to not spend the dough on. Call them fools , call them snobs or whatever you choose but it really makes you seem petty and jealous. It's beer , it's super rare and it's what these guys enjoy doing. Would I drop this kind of cash on some beer? Doubtful but I have dropped cash on other items some people call foolish  We all have our hobbies and our vices , you live one time on this earth , enjoy it gals and guys while you can

While I in no way aspire to partake in such a tasting, I admit that I was completely mesmerized by the article. Thank you for sharing.

Maybe it was just the way I read it. Made it sound like Ghost Whale tasting where beneath you somehow.

After reading again more thoroughly, nothing we had was quite that rare. Crazy stuff indeed.

Read my post above, I misread the article the first time around. We were a tier or two below that guy.

I guess I don't understand the idea that extreme rarity makes a beer worth four figures or somehow taste better than a beer that costs a fraction of the price because there were more that 28 bottles released.

At some point it ceases being about the beer and it becomes completely about status and reputation. It's no longer about how good the beer is, and instead it's about how few people have tried said beer. If that's what these guys get out of drinking beer, then more power to them. I wouldn't call them snobs or fools because I don't know anything about them beyond this interest in rare beer. It's just I mindset I don't really get.

I don't think I'm ever going to be in that place, no matter how much money I have.

Very cool read! I can kind of relate to the article, but only in reference to cigars. This kind of stuff only happens but so often as there aren't a lot of those bottles to go around.
