I spent some time last weekend at Bells. Talking to brewery people, it was stated that sometime last year Two Hearted Ale went past Oberon as their best selling beer.

I don't really like IPA's all that much but love me some Two Hearted!

I'm surprised Oberon was the best selling beer at one point, considering it's a seasonal. That's impressive.

Oberon is available outside Michigan year round in a lot of states.

FL, AZ, AL, Puerto Rico and maybe some other warm states.

Not so long ago it was over 50% of Bells production.

I know I'm in the minority but I'm not the biggest 2 hearted fan. But I can see the appeal from other states. Two hearted is still better then 75-80% of the ipa's in other states

I believe that the volume of Oberon may still be higher than that of Two Hearted, though I cannot recall the numbers I was previously quoted. The Two Hearted claim to "best selling" beer may be based on revenue.

Either way at Bell's it is Oberon, Two Hearted and everything else. The difference is barrels between those two and every other label is staggering.

I had heard a few years back that Oberon accounted for almost 90% of their sales- must have changed significantly, or I had the wrong information.

Maybe Larry will see this and clarify. The investment in the dry hop fermentation tanks was a good one

I used to think Amber was up there, too.

Two Hearted is indeed our number one seller with Oberon being a very solid number two in our portfolio. Amber, which built the brewery in the eighties and first half of the nineties, comes in at third.

    Thanks for the confirmation Larry.

I still like an Amber now and then.

Don't be. There's a reason they used Oberons (I mean Sol Sun's) tap handles for their taproom.

Two Hearted has plenty of appeal to Michiganders.

(Perhaps not to you but you needn't overgeneralize your personal taste.)

I know this Biff. I gave my opinion on it, and that's why i stated IN MY OPINION.

You must have intended to state "in my opinion" as I don't see that in your message that I originally quoted.

Further, you went beyond mere opinion when you claimed that Two Hearted's popularity must be due to folks in other states. (And it's certainly arguable that Two Hearted sales particularly suffer in Michigan due to other IPAs that are only available in Michigan.)

Perhaps you meant something else but it's not clear from what you wrote.

I kinda picked up that @Brianw508 was saying that Two Hearted is better than most IPAs not brewed in Michigan but he personally likes other in state IPAs more. I really can't read much more than that into his comment. Nothing to see there.

Looking at his previous posts, he has a history of taking little swipes at Bell's and Founder's.

So I tend to read his comment here as one that insinuates that Two Hearted would be less popular if everyone had access to the beer that is available in Michigan--thus the "I can see the appeal from other states."

That a passive aggressive way of making a negative comment about Two Hearted and it follows from his previous posts.

He does seems to have many positive posts about Short's though!
