i don't get why it bothers people that others dislike not-fresh IPAs. what's it to you?

"oh you think your palate's so great!?"

what the fuck are you, 12 years old? any other preferences of mine you're stupid enough to take issue with?

"but 2 months old IS fresh!"

maybe for you. with most IPAs, not for me. so fucking what?

I was in a store today (great beer shop, knowledgeable workers, fresh beer) that had "brand-new" DirtWolf. There was no "best-by" date anywhere on the bottle. I then went to another respectable beer shop and found the same thing with their DirtWolf.

Perhaps someone from Victory or some credible BA can comment on the best-by date (or lack thereof)?

Just picked up my first 4 pack of Dirtwolf about 2 hours ago. For the life of me I couldn't find any kind of dating on the bottle. The place I picked it up from does tons of business soI took the gamble. Where should the date be, the neck of the bottle?

I got best by October 14th in my store already and it clearly states that on the label to the left of the barcode not on the neck.

I found a 4 pack of this the other day and it had no dates of any kind on the packaging of either the bottles or the carrier. I passed. It's too bad; I really wanted to buy it, but I will not buy a hoppy beer without knowing how fresh it is.

I'm generally with you, but FWIW, I have purchased a bunch of Dirt Wolf from the same store over a fairly lengthy period of time. I'm fairly certain it was all the same batch, and it has held up really well. I'd go for it.

They changed their dating recently. It was on the neck of the bottle, which some retailers or distributors can wipe off. Now it is printed on the upper right corner of the label, sideways.

edit: sorry didn't see above posts. only saw last one

I examined it very, very carefully and saw nothing. Maybe it was really old.

Ever since I decided to fixate on IPA dating, I've bought more and more IPAs, and I have frequently had disappointing experiences. Well, that's what I hear. Too many IPAs are made for all of you discerning individuals to be consumed within "your" time frame of freshness potential. Some smart brewers "fixate" on dark beers, Belgians, farmhouse, etc. Brewer and consumer problem solved. I love IPAs, but know how to buy them.

I didn't know they changed their date printing, so I spent a few minutes holding a bottle up to the light in the store, on multiple bottles, failing to find the date. Then boom, saw it on the label. Great change for Victory. Now if only Lagunitas and Stone would do the same...

Yes, they do indeed provide an Enjoy By date on their label. I bought a case of DirtWolf a few weeks ago and those bottles have an enjoy date of 18 Jan 2015. Kudos to Victory Brewing for providing dates which are easy to read. Non-Kudos for Victory to have such a long best by timeframe for a hoppy beer like DirtWolf; 5 months is just too long for a beer like DirtWolf.

    Cheers!
