I've witnessed a KBS release allotment cut in half because they underestimated the crowd and that was a few years ago. I hope this works out but in the last few years of unfortunate situations at releases you'd hope this was done differently. Good luck fellas

Can't wait to hear how this one turns out.
Camera phones need to be on and recording the events.

Anyone thinking about getting there at 6am and getting bottles has obviously never been to a beer release and is taking a serious gamble.

Foothills told people not to line up before two and the line was over 150 deep by 1:30AM.
This was for BASC which is almost non existent on the market forums here and there were more bottles to go around.

Also, funny how the same person that was so happy to spread misinformation here all the way up until the release date was formally announced ( I think this person originally posted Cinco De Mayo as the date ) is now the authority on telling people exactly how things are going down and what to do.

Are his bottles already secured? That is usually when people tell everyone else to not panic and follow the rules.

Wish I could be there, but it is a long drive. Ill have to read this thread and live vicariously.

    Cheers! Don't get arrested!

Also any brewery underestimating a crowd at a release this hyped at this point in the game ( post 2009? ) is laughable.

I'll take 1 fist fight and 1 arrest. Things are almost always not as entertaining as they can be.

If you are talking about me, then you are way off base. I was the one correcting all the misinformation. I even told people they were completely wrong to assume the regular cake was going to be released May 5th. The only thing I was wrong on was the secret release, but Edward told us (the people working the event) originally that it would be a surprise release. They changed their mind, as they didn't want to piss off out of state people. All my posts have just been relaying the same information that can be found in Westbrook's facebook post. Have you bothered to read it? Anyone who lives in Mount Pleasant can tell you how it is here. This isn't Foothills. I have worked overnight prep for events at Westbrook before. If the brewery hasn't notified the police to allow people on the property overnight, the cops will kick you off. Plain and simple. In this case, the brewery specifically requested people stay off the property overnight. I am not telling anyone what they have to do here, but I think it is fair to warn others of the consequences.

So on Sept 11th when everyone was clamoring about when the BAMC release would be, your random post of "May 5th" was not thrown out as a joke or misinformation.

It was just letting people know the regular mexican cake would not be released May 5, 2015?

    Thanks for the clarification.

    BTW, are your bottles secured?

Ummm, you are new here. Go back and read from the start, and maybe you will get the joke.
The workers get the same allotment everyone else gets (from what I hear), but we actually have to work for it.

So if there is a long ass line at 5:30 what's to stop anyone from just walking to the front since it isn't official? This madness over beer is mind boggling.

Going to disagree with you. The brewery made the rules and you are expecting someone to follow the rules you make up. I think they are creating this shit show, but you cannot tell someone they have to wait behind 600 people when they get there at 5:45.

The more I've thought about it, I've decided not to make the trek.
At first I could obviously see that the release is catered towards out of town people, which was cool of them.
Then they went ahead and made so many unknowns that it's not worth it for me.

    A. I don't know anyone in SC
    B. no official line until 6 am so you have to lurk starting at midnight (or sooner)
    C. Only 425 people get wristbands
    D. The possibility of allotment being reduced
    E. The $240 price tag for 8 beers (not a huge deal but that's a lot of money)
    F. The overall potential for this to be a dangerous event, IMO (don't care how many police there are)

Good luck to everyone involved and be safe most importantly.
I'll be watching from the sidelines.
Hopefully one more local can get in line if I don't go.
We get plenty of westbrook here in AL, and I'll continue to buy the crap out of it.

Nothing better, than seeing posted trades, from folks trading beers they don't even have yet. That methodology NEVER fails...

    425 people x 8 (Assuming full allotment, they'll sell regardless) x 30 = $102k, in just 4-6 hours of sales.

Yeah, they will endure the madness, for a quick influx of cash like that.

This is going to go poorly. If you lurk in the woods around a brewery just to get a beer, you need help. I can't imagine doing that, especially now that I work a lot and have responsibilities. Craft beer is a fun hobby (hell it's even my job at this point), but I can't a fine fighting for a spot in line or moving around like a man behind enemy lines.

This speaks to a larger issue. Where has craft beer gone? When I got in, it was fun. We enjoyed releases; ORF 2012 was a blast. Huge bottle share in line, no ill will anywhere. Yes it was smaller, but it was more the attitude. No line jumping, no immaturity. We followed the rules set by WSPD and Foothills, acted like adults, and benefitted from it.

Will I be going to a release like this again? Not if Huna day or what this is looking like continues to happen.

Ok I'm off my soapbox. I really wanna try tequila, but won't be but hurt if I don't. It's beer, but it's just beer.

Also, breweries don't make a ton of money on special releases. Between ingredients, time, extra help bottling, and many other factors, it's almost a wash. Yes instant cash in to recover a ton of other expenses incurred making the beer.

They make beers like this for themselves and us, the consumer.
