In either case, only 425 people served may be cutting it close depending on the turnout.

Some posts mention 1000s of people showing up for this. Is that realistic with only 3 days notice?

Is there a reason something like Brown Paper Tickets (online sale of beer, print out ticket, show up at brewery w/ ID to pick up), a la AleSmith, wouldn't be the best possible option here? I can't think of what recommends the 3AM camp out style releases.

I live within 15 minutes of a dozen breweries in Charlotte, NC. I get preferential treatment at the ones I frequent the most - just like I do at the best beer bars I frequent, Duckworth's specifically. I get to know the people. I get to participate in brewery tastings and events. I get a heads-up when something big is about to happen. I get the occasional free glass of beer or merch. That's where a "local" gets their preferential treatment.

In terms of a major release of rare beer, I would never expect my local brewery to show me preferential treatment. You should consider yourself lucky - you live closer than most people, it shouldn't be much of a problem for you to acquire some bottles.

The camp out style release doesn't bother me.
I actually love camping out for crap (x box, playstation).
If they actually had a plan in place to start the line when the first person gets there,(I'm guessing before midnight tonight) and sort of monitor it up until the release time then I could get on board.
But when you are making over 100 grand in a couple hours I'm sure you don't care about the details or public safety.

People can do what they want. Just don't be pissed at Westbrook when the cops kick you off the property. There isn't really much more they can do to warn people.

Not sure what the point of this post is, you didn't really address the main point.
Which I think is, why can't a line be formed whenever the first person arrives?
Instead everyone will either be standing just outside the property ready to bum rush the place as soon as the cops let them onto the property or early arrivals will try and create a way to have a line or order to follow, which some late arriving people will not heed. Doesn't seem like the best approach.
I won't be there but have a friend going so hope it works out for everyone.

One thing is for sure, Westbrook will realize just how popular they are tomorrow! I am curious to see who is making the farthest drive or flight for the event.

Agreed... headline in tomorrow's local paper:

    POPULATION OF MT PLEASANT DOUBLES!

I'm pretty sure Westbrook already knows how popular they are. The question will be how popular they will be after this release blows up in their face.

    The Beer Gods giveth...

As I'm sitting here, still considering making the drive... my buddy calls from Dayton Ohio. He drove up for the weekend to visit his father and I gave him $100 and a list of brews I wanted from a specific bottle shop. My buddy is in the store when he calls me - he's not a beer geek - so he hands the phone to the owner of the shop so I can talk to him. Guy tells me Jackie O's Oil of Aphrodite rum barrel aged is coming out in the next fifteen minutes - 2 bottle limit. SCORE!

    I predict . . .

    4 arrests

    1 fist fight
1 drunk yelling that it's their birthday
    2 people struck by lightning
3 people somehow walking away with cases?
    19 grandmules
and several pissed off people walking away empty handed.

I personally won't be pissed at anybody as I won't be there but having spent the last 13 + years in the Marine Corps the one thing I have learned is that proper planning prevents piss poor execution , If you think that telling 400 + people to all show up at the same time and then try to organize them into any semblance of a line when only 425 are getting a allotment of beers then I don' know what to tell you, If I were running this I would announced a time when a line can be formed and the location of where the line will start , then I would have the Police there a couple of hours prior to that they then can control as people get in line as not everyone will get there at the same time , then you can have a worker with a counter count the line when they get to 425 they hand out the wristbands. everyone after that can choose to line up an wait to see if there is any extra bottles at their own risk . But that is just my humble opinion, if you rather have a soup sandwich good for you . I don't want to make it sound like the world is going to end but when you have that many people there has to be control, all it takes is 1 or 2 instigators for things to get out of control to where now no one is getting beers and people get hurt .

I wish I could see a tally of how many people who are not from Charleston county (i. e. non-locals) get a wristband versus the locals from charleston county.

All good points. However, the Raver isn't in contriol of the way Westbrook sets up this release. He is simply helping out and volunteering his time. In addition he has provided info to help people not get into any trouble with the cops. Hopefully people remember that in the end, it's just beer. Hope everyone has a great time and people are cordial

Why should the brewery want insurance liabilities on their property over night?

I understand but wouldn't there be a liability issue if someone gets the shit beat out of them at 6am on the property because of the free for all to get in line.
Couldn't a sign saying form line here be put up in the area they are telling people to hang out at prior to 6. Cops could reinforce it to new arrivals every once in awhile that the sign is official. Shouldn't be an issue if people can form a line and know its official.

Understood but he quoted my post on how things could have been done better for this release, and defended the way is being done by westbrook , and anybody here would work the event as I am sure his allotment is all ready secured for doing so don't make it seem like he is just doing this out of the goodness of his heart . Like I said I won't be there so just looking at the situation w/o bias .

    Really? Where?

Does anyone here have eyes on the area of the brewery? We are driving from 3 hours away and are curious what we will see when we get there...
