Stout tasting last night with @TTC. My first time with DB Huna and it lived up to expectations, BOTN for me. Prop, BA Biscotti Break, and Mex Cake were also stellar. HF M&C and Hardywood Gingerbread Stout were major disappointments. M&C tasted infected.

Sibling rivalry, one gets new clothes and now another has to have some also. Kids.

This is a stock/file photo here cuz I'm locked in a life and death struggle with a growler of this monster. Thank god for the 2 great noon games. Settling in for a quality slate of late afternoon/night games. Hope I can stay conscious long enough to enjoy them. Won't bother you with anymore posts unless I break into something different. Enjoy your Saturday all. Cheers.

Absolutely; that's not something I'd really considered. In my review, I pointed out that it's not quite a "stale cardboard" degradation of hops that I'm used to; but there is a prominence to the caramel malts, and not in a great way, that implies staleness.

The wood is a great insight, as this implied staleness isn't making the beer undrinkable by any means, but it's just slightly off-putting (I also think of other wood-aged IPAs where the flavor may be familiar, but more agreeable - such as Burton Baton). Hence, I'd definitely like to try it fresher, and see if there's a difference; at 46 days, with this kind of IPA, I can't imagine it's significantly degraded, really.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Moving on to the hoppy stuff now. Society & Solitude #7 in the new glass. I love the way the color pops. The beer is pretty damn good as well, lots of big citrusy hops. I just love Saturdays

Gonna pop some stuff from this box I found on my doorstep, from @IrishColonial. Haven't tried Bible Belt, Bomb! or King Henry before. Excited about the KH.

    No problemo.

Their theory is that the original beer would have had a touch of that character because the vats would be unevenly lined with pitch, and a small portion of wood would make contact with the beer. What they are doing these days is utilizing a hopback of sorts, stuffed with oak staves instead of hops. I find it's kind of a nice undercurrent if you know it's there.

I was planning to stop at Tributary Brewing on the way down to Boston yesterday to get a growler of the wet Hop Harvest they just put on Thursday night, but there wasn't enough time. So I drove down earlier today for it and stopped into Portsmouth Brewery for a couple of beers first.

Now I'm home drinking my Hop Harvest growler and watching the Michigan game. Tributary's fb page says it's brewed with fresh Centennial hops from Moxie, WA.

These finally showed up in North Carolina. I don't know why, but these bottle make me laugh out loud. I know if other breweries were to make these, they'd charge at least $10+, whereas this was $7 and change. Anyway, this Florida-Bama game is pretty good, and hopefully it stays close (I don't care who wins, just want a good game). Cheers y'all!

One thing I can't deny: it's an absolutely perfectly beautiful beer. I can't imagine a beer with a better overall appearance (although there are a handful of other beers to which I've given a perfect 5.0 in the category).

It may not show from any of my pictures, but it's a fantastic looking beer. (That pic was taken a good 8-10 minutes after topping off the head; that's how good the retention is.)
