    Hey You, LICC ME
Beer with Locals, that's the way it should be
    Hey You, LICC ME
    We'll trade together, naturally
I had a porch I had an awesome porch
People in the thread, trade beer in a box
    When we're asked we'll say it's marinade
And backs will break there's no doubt their voice will be crying out
    Hey You, LICC ME
Send me locals, on my porch they will be
    Hey You, LICC ME
Trade beer forever, Just you see
As UPS goes down a lonesome Highway
Seems the best thing to do is make a friend or two
A trading bud, some one who understands
That some beer will come your way
You've got some one there to LICC you
    Hey You, LICC ME
Hit me with Locals, Now where my porch should be
    Hey You, LICC ME
I'll drink your sixer, and then take a pee
So I think you broke my front porch. Oh no.
Cause the whole thread will be trading
    That's right I'm LICCing you
It's time to start repairing my porch
Receiving all the beer, this box is a shining star
    Hey You, LICC ME
I'm drinking these locals, till I stumble with glee
    Hey You, LICC ME
We'll get drunk together, Just wait and see

Got this great box from @edhizdeid. Not pictured is a growler, that had lost a lot of blood. It is in triage. Hoping to save 1/2 of it. The rest were spared because of an excellent packing job. Everything (including the box) else was fine. Only the inner bag was wet. Can't wait to dig in!

Twister Creek IPA is the one that I've had (and was quite tasty). The brewery is in Talkeetna, but the name is Denali Brewing. My favorite of there's was the Twister Creek IPA and the Valera's Chai Brown, which I'm fairly certain is the only chai brown beer I've had.

ETA: And of course I missed a whole page of the thread, so most of what I said someone else has about the brewery name. Oh, well, leaving it up anyway

So we haven't heard from @blackcloud but I think at least 25-30 people have responded -- we will collectively "subsidize" shipping to and from Alaska. That way both ends of the transaction get good boxes and nobody takes a major financial hit.

As mentioned, I would rather not be the middleman on that part, but we also don't want everybody to know the other parties (target and sender) involved, so what I would suggest is we all paypal a contribution to @Lehighace06 , he can then pass it on to @blackcloud and his sender? If it's easier, I am fine having him know that one additional person, but don't want to ruin any clue guessing that he likes to do.

We still have some time to do it (since I have to stop reading this thread and work on targets), but when it comes time I guess @Lehighace06 could start another private conversation about this, or when it comes time I'll unlock the other thread, he can post his info, and then we will relock.

I wasn't able to reply yesterday - but want to echo everybody else's sentiments - paypal button ready to send a subsidy for both senders!

Thanks Mike for your endorsement, I'm happy to coordinate everything. The numbers I rambled off in the BM thread all are based upon $5 donations from everyone. Given the outstanding showing yesterday (and this morning), that amount from each volunteer will get us at least to a point where shipping for the AK senders will be no more than between two bottom 48 states, they might even make out better than some of us.

With that said, if any volunteer prefers to send more or less than $5, no one will know it but me (and frankly I don't give a damn) so no one will judge you regardless. Also, if the donations exceed the need, I can assure you that it will be translated into beer for someone, either the AK guys will get it and be expected to juice their box with it, or my target will be the benefactor (as a means of it being random), or I'll do a "you guys are too generous" LIF, something; just know that I'm not gonna just keep it for myself.

    What is in the growler?

Growlers are like the Tony Romo of the beer trading world. Never know when they will implode.

finally waded through the BMs and y'all are a wonderful show of advocacy... subsidy (at least on the FROM AK side) isn't expected by me, but is definitely appreciated. I'll gladly contribute my $5 to help out.

oh, and target: expect some twister creek ipa as discussed above. it's a staple and i'll defintely be putting a few fresh cans in your box.

EDIT: the 57lb SWTFYW BiaB was $103 from Fairbanks-Chicago via FedEx ground. I've unfortunately determined that in Juneau i can RECEIVE FedEx ground, but can't send, so my box will travel a bit faster out of the 49th State...

Yup, it'll be added to the BM thread once we're closer to that point.

Good news is I would not assume a box for The Locals would be the 57# that the BIAB monster is. The bad news is that no ground = no bueno. Maybe we won't be doing a weighted split of the funds afterall.

eh.. no worries. I know and acknowledge what i'm getting into shipping from here. no special dispensation necessary. The perils of living somewhere that isn't reachable by a road....

You might want to doublecheck -- I just went to Fedex, and made an arbitrary shipment -- from your zip to mine (in New York state) -- I said one box, 30 pounds, dropped off at a Fedex facility. It said it could go by ground for $78, but would take 9 days. Honestly by late October warm weather probably won't be an issue, so that's not terrible. And surprisingly, doing that same shipment and saying 2 day delivery was only $109. I'm not sure if that's worth considering. A 40 pound box going to Florida would be $94 ground.

As I just said, I think ground will work. But why is no ground no good?

No ground means your remaining available options are more expensive. I didn't have any issue creating a ground shipment from an area zip code either, but I'll trust the guy on the ground when it comes to whether he has the service available to him or not.

Yeah. If you plug it in the website, it will let you do it, but there's nowhere to drop off ground packages in Juneau. When I was in Fairbanks, everything from the middle of the country east would go to Chicago via ground, and then hitch a ride to Anchorage with the express packages and then continue on a truck from there.

Unfortunately (for me) UPS is the same way, however when you enter packages in UPS, at least it tells you that you can't ship ground from Juneau.

I was regularly shipping trade boxes from Fairbanks for $30-40, even to FL

Gotcha, and @blackcloud explained it fine. But if it's about $60 more than it would cost the lower 48 to ship, your community contribution idea would still work, wouldn't it? Although it sounds like @blackcloud will get hit harder than his sender will.
