While I agree that $17 is high, last night I mentioned this to a friend who owns a liquor store and he started to look up the prices for previous Founders bombers. $17 is right in line, if not a bit low, for their releases. IIRC, he said Bolt Cutter was $23? Mango was $16. etc. I just looked up FMB and it was $15 and Sweet Repute was $19.

Prices are getting out of hand on these (IMHO)

Even at $17, I feel like it will sell out relatively quickly here in Ohio. Although I don't make it into bottle shops too often with so much homebrew to drink, I've only ever seen 3 of the releases on shelves (Blushing Monk, Mango Magnifico, and Dissenter (oh, how lucky I am...). Based off the feedback I'm seeing on here, hope there's a chance I will be able to pick this one up.

I'll give it a shot but it is a bit pricy.

If they can charge 12 for a IPL, they can charge 16 for a Stout.

I have faith they will pull this one off. Hope we get some down here in the sunshine state.

Sounds awesome, but for that price I'm doubtful I'd pick it up. And I love almost everything founders has put out.

While I agree that sometimes people are too immediately negative and need to be talked down, in this thread the meta-complaining is more annoying than the complaining.

(Shit. Does this mean I'm meta-meta-complaining?)

Agreed on the price being steep. i'll pick up one just like dissenter, and wait for it to go on sale at a reasonable 12.99. whole foods has cases of dissenter on sale for 9.99. i'm holding out for 8.49

@kzoobrew is right, that's really NOT what price gouging means. In both economic and legal terms, "price gouging" refers to the raising of prices (usually of necessities like food, water, fuel, etc.) during a panic, crisis, emergency, etc. Doesn't really apply here. I agree the price is excessive, but "price gouging" has a specific meaning, and my favorite brewery charging more for their limited release ain't it.

That said, arguing semantics will get us nowhere, and I agree with your basic premise.

It isn't for no reason, the reason is to make money, this is how they make their living, by selling beer. Also I've said it a bunch of times, YOU CAN'T PRICE GOUGE ON BEER, it is impossible.

I've been into craft for about 9 years and prices have gone up on pretty much all the beers I buy and it is up to me to decide whether or not to buy them or not, some I still buy and some I don't.

Also I this beer in particular, it is using raspberries and chocolate, which (especially raspberries) are pretty expensive, so that has to be factored into the cost. Would you prefer they use artificial flavors in their beer? That would certainly lower the cost and the quality.

I never would have thought so many BA's were only $17 from being broke.

I'd actually bet that this is a dangerous hobby for more BAs than you think.

A local chocolate raspberry porter released today. I'm sure Founders will be better and richer, but this is rather tasty. Did I mention it was $7?

At this price point my chances of snagging one are slim-to-none, vs none if it were cheaper. Keep pricing down demand.

It'd probably taste better out of a clean glass, that dishwasher detergent probably isn't helping the flavor profile
