Beer Release (Short's Brew): Kind Ale/Bonafide Legit

Well, we have some new ones, folks (surprise, surprise)!

Kind Ale (SUPER limited specialty), and Bonafide Legit (seasonal pale ale w/ 100% Michigan malt/Summit hops).

Get on that Kind Ale, when it hits stores- less than 500 cases are being distributed throughout Michigan! Bonafide Legit should be around for a bit, and it's tasting just fine.



Kind Ale - Short’s Kind Ale a.k.a. Harvest Ale, is a seasonal beer made each fall to celebrate a successful growing season. True to tradition, we commemorate the earth’s agricultural environment by using freshly picked hops to “wet hop” this brew. Straight from the fields on Leelanau Peninsula, local hops impart a mellow earthiness to this ale that lead to moderate bitter tones and a subtle sweetness in the finish.

Kind Ale was first brewed as a single batch at our Elk Rapids production facility in September of 2009. The label art for Kind Ale is a picture of Tony Hansen holding up some of the first ever usable mature hops grown in Northern Michigan. The first year the beer was brewed, Joe Short and Tony Hansen visited hop fields on Old Mission Peninsula to watch the hops get picked, before loading them into their truck and personally driving them back to Elk Rapids to brew with that day.

Bonafide Legit- A light bodied American Pale Ale brewed entirely with Northern Michigan grown Summit hops. An excellent sharp aroma of strong floral and fruity characteristics stings the senses with hop laced anticipation. A sticky hop filled mouthful of damp earthy pine with notable herbal accents coats the entire mouth, followed by a big resiny bitterness that lingers well into the finish, drying the palate and resonating boldly

This is without a doubt the best batch of Kind Ale, ever. It's hoppier.
