    Beer Lovers,

I have received reports of some Duck-Rabbit bottles that have developed off-flavors. This is, of course, distressing to say the least! Please be assured that the team and I are taking every measure we can think of to avoid this happening again. In the meantime, I want to find a way to help out anyone who got 'hold of the beer in question. My supposition is that since you bought beer, beer (that tastes as it should) is what you'd prefer! If you're able to find your way to Farmville, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to give you some fresh beer. Certainly, I understand that won't be possible for many of you. I think the next best opportunity is that if we can arrange to meet (me or one of the team - we have a rep who gets around the state quite a bit, for example), we can, similarly, get you some fresh beer. Of course, that too might not be possible. In that case, will you allow me to mail you some Duck-Rabbit schwag? That's not as good as beer, but if the first two possibilities don't work, I hope it at least helps. Please contact me by phone or email and we'll get this figured out: 252.753-7745, [email protected].

    Respectfully,

I personally haven't had any problems with the quality of any Duck Rabbit beer. I do, however, still commend you for offering restitution for those that may have. This is what is so remarkable about the craft beer community: brewers like Paul can connect in meaningful ways with their customers and they are more likely to do so than business owners in other industries. This is because we're all passionate about advocating great beer!

I had a bad 6 of Rabid Duck and traded two Baltic Porters to a fellow BA guy. I was embarrassed to trade two infected brews even though as extra's he said to forget it. I sent him two replacements which made me completely upside down in a simple trade. I still see this stuff on the shelf and have no clue if it's crap or good to go. So I pass.

The one and only time I tried the Rabid Duck and the Barleywine, I ended up pouring them out. I also caught a lot of shit from fellow BA's for suggesting the beer was below-average, when it was most likely simply infected. I'd be happy to give both beers another shot, though.

Still sitting on 10 bottles of probably infected Rabid Duck, the 2 I tried both had that early infection flavor. I commend you for this public statement (though "off-flavors" is sort of like a Dr. describing a patient's pneumonia as shortness of breath) and for taking action, though I obviously cannot get to Farmville, and the cost of returning the bottles to someone nearby is sort of self defeating, I guess some schwag and the assurance that future batches will be of the stellar quality we all have enjoyed will have to do.

Glad to see you guys posting up something Paul. I think I was one of the first to send you something about the Barleywine being infected this year as well. Also got a 6-pack of Rabid Duck and saw ewright's post about it being infected. Tried it, and sure enough. I will shoot you my info via email since I'm down in South Carolina. Cheers and look forward to seeing you at the Olde Rabbit's Foot release this year!

Nice to see this response. Cheers, to you, Paul! I haven't had any of the infected ones, but some Barleywine I sent up to a friend, was indeed infected.

Bought a six of Hoppy Bunny and sure enough, infected. This is the second duck rabbit six pack in a row I've been burned on. I had 3 other people try it and all agreed. I bought six beers, I drank a half, and the kitchen sink drank the other 5 1/2.

Let me get my head around the spoilage taste. I have felt in the past DR brews to be good dark, smooth beers. I have in the last few years swayed to buying a lot of sour ales. I have the rabid duck and feel like maybe its a touch acidy maybe, is that it? Its not offensive to me but if thats not the intent Id like to know to help out the brewery. Shoot, I think my wife would love for me to get rid of some of the beer Ive stockpiled anyway.

Hoppy Bunny just got released last month. I only had one bottle, but it was plenty tasty. It's hard to believe it could already be infected.

BTW, I sent an email Monday night per Paul's message. No response yet :slight_frown:

The primary flavors were metallic and an off sourness. You could taste the base beer, but it took a back seat. The three people I had try the beer all had a very strange look on their face after they took a sip.

As a follow up...I just opened another bottle from the same six pack giving it another shot in case it was an issue with me personally yesterday.

Nope. There is 100% something wrong with this beer.

Same here, no response. I will just assume they are busy but are on top of things, but I do intend to stay on top of this, and post in an ongoing fashion tracking their response to this.

I too sent an email around the same time. Haven't heard a word yet.

If they are too busy to respond to solicited emails, I hope it is because they are sanitizing the brewery top to bottom. Not a fan of how the issue has been handled.

I've had 2 sixers and they've been great! Big hoppy black beer. Delicious.
