Can you spot the difference between these two pictures?

A good weekend's work splitting many cords of wood. My back hurts, but it'll be nice to have a warm house all winter...

By happenstance I ended up with several different pale Fremonters (is there any other kind?) lurking around my house. So I decided to dedicate the day to them.

I started off with Summer Ale, the APA from Fremont. While summer may be nominally over, you wouldn't know it from being outside the last two days (the previous week, though, is another matter...). By nature of the fact that this is a summer release, it wasn't AS fresh as it could have been, and we all know that anything with any hops in it is no good the second it leaves the tap (like a new car off the lot)... still it was a tasty treat and a interesting contrast with the next one I tried.

After Summer came Bellingham Beer Week. I've long had a lot of respect for the beers produced by the brewery named for the neighbourhood of my birth: Interurban, their base IPA is my goto off the shelves, and their Seattle Beer Week APA from a couple of years ago was one of the first ones that really opened my eyes.
Bellingham Beer Week is another of the Cowiche Canyon series they do and is fan-freaking-tastic. While the Summer ale was more lemon citrus on the nose and some tangerine on the taste, while the BBW was more juicy tropical fruit and honey sweetness hidden behind an aroma of straw-like pilsner malts.

Interurban, their base IPA is amazing, but it's nothing new for me: it's been a go to for me for a couple of years.
I'll skip that for now and move on to the DIPA they do from time to time. I picked this up when I went to the brewery a couple of weeks back for the first time. It's called The Brother and it was the same trip as going to the airport to pick my brother up, so I figured it was quite appropriate. Anyway, uniquely appealing nose smells of calendula and juicy hops. The taste is less unique, but is still quite... tasty. Spice and sweet/floral hops dominate with a bready/honey malt body. Also has one of my all time favourite can designs (you can see it further down this novella of a post...), along with the Seattle Beer Week 5th Anniversary APA.

OK, that took me almost three hours to type out, because I had to leave time to actually drink and review the last two (I suppose I could have made separate posts, but whatever...) and allow for the inevitable interruptions.
I recommend each and every one, though they are definitely discrete from one another. My quick associations are Summer: lemon/tangerine. Bellingham: Honeydew. Brother: Calendula.

There you have it. A semi-comprehensive collection of pale Fremont ales. Here's the lineup!

This song was stuck in my head for a hot minute. No tie in to today's post, but I wanted to get it out there at some point and figured it was either this, Curtis Mayfield, or Clipse.

    Cheers all!!
