SIERRA NEVADA FENDS OFF THE COLD WITH BRAND NEW “SNOWPACK”

Chico, CA—October 1, 2014—Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. filled its third and final seasonal mixed 12-pack of the year with beers that ward off winter’s bite. Aptly named, Snowpack features two brand new beers and two steadfast recipes. The variety pack starts heading to distributors this week and will be available through January 2015. Whether harnessing the comfort of coffee or borrowing a little bit of summer from the Southern Hemisphere, Snowpack helps uplift those hunkering down for the storm.

    • Boomerang IPA is a blend of American brewing style with Southern Hemisphere flavor. Sierra Nevada added heaps of vibrant Australian hops to this bold beer. With a light, balanced malt body and compelling floral and fruity hop aromas, Boomerang is an intriguing international spin on the classic IPA.
    • Coffee Stout combines the best of Sierra Nevada’s two favorite brews—coffee and beer. The brewery blended the hearty flavors of coffee with dark roasted malts to create a complex and layered mix of dark chocolate, caramel and light fruity notes punctuated with a roasty, dry finish for the perfect cold-weather drink.
    • Porter was part of Sierra Nevada’s inaugural lineup decades ago. Its big malt flavor earned it permanence, and craft drinkers continue to relish the rich, bittersweet and roasted gem. Medium bodied and balanced by crisp American hops, Porter is a great finale to a long winter’s day of work.
    • Pale Ale began as a home brewer’s dream, grew into an icon, and inspired countless brewers to follow a passion of their own. Its unique piney and grapefruit aromas from the use of whole-cone American hops have fascinated beer drinkers for decades and made this beer a classic, yet it remains new, complex and surprising to beer drinkers every day. It is—as it always has been—all natural, bottle conditioned and refreshingly bold.
“This mixed pack is a fun cross section of our brewery, a bit of a timeline” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “I remember roasting malted barley in my own kitchen in the early days of Porter, and today we’re using coffee to create really complex flavors. I took road trips in the 70s to get my hands on Cascade hops, and here we are teaming up with friends in Australia who are growing new and exciting varieties. Snowpack shows how fun of a ride craft beer continues to be.”

As Snowpack makes its way into stores, folks can track down the variety pack using Sierra Nevada’s Beer Locator. The brewery is dialing in its 2015 lineup, which will weave in a fourth seasonal variety 12-pack to fill the calendar with even more diversity for craft drinkers.

Wish there was Celebration instead of the Pale Ale, but I know how these sampler packs work.

    Count me in!

I actually like how Celebration is sold separately, much like Flipside was. I want to buy Celebration on its own.

However, I find it weird to include an IPA because Celebration is the winter seasonal. I would have liked to see that slot filled with a non-hoppy beer. Like how the fall mix pack was set up.

Porter - an old favorite like Tumbler

Coffee stout - many consider stouts a winter style, therefore something seasonal like the Oktoberfest

Pale ale - their flagship, just like in the fall pack, makes sense

Boomerang IPA - *scratches head* would have liked to see something that makes more sense for winter, and is a style that isn't brewed much in the US, like the Vienna Lager. In addition to that, it appears the Vienna Lager was a hit, at least among us beer geeks. A doppelbock would have been nice here.

Just like Sam Adams always including the Boston Lagers, please stop including Pale Ale. It is availabe everywhere, all the time. Would much rather have had Flipside and Celebration.

I second (third?) all the comments saying that SN Pale Ale shouldn't be included. I'd prefer a fourth beer that is an actual seasonal (Celebration), but I'd even rather have Torpedo.

Looks like a great selection. I will be the first to pipe up about timing. It is only a week out of summer and they are shipping an IPA with beers to drink this winter.

I'd rather have had another seasonal than have half the variety pack comprised of typical offerings. Don't get me wrong, I live the pale ale, but it's available all the time. Seems like they're forcing regular stuff upon you to even try the s atonal stuff. And yeah...it's an odd time for release. It's nowhere near winter. It's just like the pumpkin brews. They come out earlier and earlier every year. It's a huge turn off especially where holiday related product are concerned.

My worry is all the new craft beer drinkers getting into sierra nevada that will buy the 12 pack in January and have crappy IPA's and a well worn pale ale and decide these are not worth the price over BMC. I can look at a date. Do they date their beers? But most will not.

    Fair enough.

I've seen the IPA mix-pack in stores in the last month, so it could be worse. :grimacing:

Looking forward to this, should be a good seasonal release that won't be entirely over-blown with cinnamons and other random spices.

Looks good as SN normally is, but I'll probably stick with enjoying Celebration 12 pack and get my porter / stout's for winter somewhere else only because there is more good beer to drink then I can get too drinking and don't need the PA/IPA
