My latest score from a big store was Velvet Merkin at a TW. Thinking back for almost past year I've gotten some great finds when I don't go to my local store Dawsons, Perfect Pour or Norm's (30+ miles one way away) but at a TW, Whole Foods, and Piggly Wiggly just because of being there at the right time of the release or I was out of my great state MD where our distribution is the best:wink: So the there is the question where and what did you score from a big store and/or grocery store?

Here are some of my great finds: Hopslam, Parabola, ET Biscotti Break, GI BCS, Founders Oatmeal Stout, Lunch, Stickee Monkey, Big Bad Baptist, OTWOA, WB Citrus Ninja Exchange, Agave Maria and BORIS.

It pays to keep your eyes open. You never know when a supermarket is going to have a saavy buyer who takes advantage of the huge quantities of crappy beer they buy from distributors to parlay that history into some nice buys, and usually at lower-than-bottleshop prices.

One day circling the beer section at TW in Towson, I found a limitless supply of one week old FW Double Jack...then I woke up.

It is hard to find anything note worthy in Baltimore. Yet right now Pannepot Grand Reserva 2009 is waiting for me to pluck all of them off the shelves.

An entire cart filled with: Evil Twin/Prairie Bible Belt, Prairie Bomb, 2013 Deschutes Mirror Mirror, Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher, Clown Shoes Luchador En Fuego, and then I passed out from stout shock.

Once I awoke I proceeded to buy at least one of each of the beers I listed. Since they were in a cart, they had no price tags. As I walked up to the register all these thoughts started flying through my head like: "Holy shit this is going to be expensive. Why am I buying all of these? Stouts aren't my preference, I simply wanted a sixer of Boulevard Pop-Up. Ah screw it.".

I about crapped myself when I saw the price for Bible Belt, but everything else was around what I thought it was going to be. I walked out of Hy-Vee completely broke with a bunch of great stouts, and no Pop-Up. Damn grocery chains.

Another great find was at the same store. The beer dicks hid a couple cases of PsuedoSue behind a keg and some cases of Busch Light. They weren't too happy when I came strolling up with a case of Sue. The clerk looked at me with a face of confusion/anger and said "So uh....you found the PsuedoSue. Uh....ergh...yeah man that beer's awesome! It's my favorite!" and I replied "Yeah this stuff was obviously hidden from the customer, which would have sucked if I didn't know how to look. So I'm going to buy this one case as a prize for finding your secret hiding spot you have for, I'm guessing a lot of your beers." The clerk just looked so sad when he was ringing up my beer that he obviously hid for himself in his crappy secret hideaway.

After that all the big releases are always hidden in the stockroom buy the beer dicks. I walked by it and saw a case of Hopslam with a sixer on top with a few bottles opened. I asked a clerk to grab me a sixer, but she said it was reserved for the manager. I was furious because not only does the "manager" get all the Hopslam, and the employees are drinking a great DIPA at work. Damn beer dicks and their lame beer tricks.

I have no idea why I felt like explaining all of that, but in conclusion! Beer dicks can suck it!

You would think they would find a better hiding spot, you know like a storage space that only employees can access. Not like one of those walk in fridges where all the customers can go.

Update on score from a grocery store!!
This past weekend I was up in New York doing some family stuff. I stopped by Decicco's in Ardsley. This place is awesome and beer manager rocked. I was able to score Speedway, Jacks Abby mass rising and hoponius union, Pannepot reserve 2011, Thirsty dog wulver, Cental waters bourbon scotch, knee deep simtra and Logsdon Siezoen Bretta! If I had some really deep pockets would've gotten 4 different cascade brews.

What is your lastest score? Would love to hear.

Most of my attempts at getting Struisse stuff in MD have ended in disappointment. Loved them over in belgium more than any other beer but stuff here often has a cardboardy taste or other off flavors. I understand that it has a long trek to get her, but I have more issues with their stuff than most others from Belgium. Even kegs of black damnation that show up every now and then seem to be a little off...

I grabbed an Armand'4 Herfst off a shelf in Paris last month. That was neat.

Actually snagged a Pannepot Reserva when I was home for the holidays and stopped in at Dawson's (at least I think it was Dawson's).

Also snagged 8x Vigneronne and 8x Cantillon Gueuze in the course of a month at my local World of Beer. I asked for a few, they said "you just want all of them, you seem to really like this one?". How could I resist?

I've never known beerdicktitude. The places that I know want to sell beer. If the employees wanted to buy the beer they should have had it wrung up and put in a bag. It seems that "beer dick" is a two way street. I guess I just live in a nice place.
I would not frequent a store where I didn't like the business practices.

Parabola, Southern Charred, BCBS, Cowiche Canyon, FW 17, Sucaba, Abyss are all beers I consider difficult to obtain that I have gotten at either Bevmo or Total Wine.

Picked up a 4 pack of BCBS and a bottle of FW 17 in the same trip.
