Don't get me wrong, i'm really happy with the Imperial IPA's, stouts, and BA stuff that's been coming out this season and i certainly understand the appeal of these tasty, warming, filling brews during these getting-colder days.(not a fan of pumpkin beers) However i also love a good lager. I know a lot of the oktoberfest lagers don't get wide distribution, has anyone had any good seasonal lagers ? or know of any?

I always reach for lagers, regardless of the season. Lagers are far too vast to reduce down into one type of weather condition.

Pouring a Celebrator Doppelbock on a cold November night is just what the doctor ordered as far as I'm concerned.

Doppelbocks and baltic porters are always nice in the chillier months. The aforementioned Oktoberfests are of course wonderful. Seasonally speaking, when the maibocks start to come out in spring I am a happy man.

Schwarzbiers go pretty good with cold weather.

You can never go wrong with Ayinger's Octoberfest. To be honest I always enjoy the Sam Adams Octoberfest. This is my favorite seasonal of theirs.

Fall is great for dunkels. If only there were more available. At the very least, most of the breweries within an hour of Munich make one, but very few of them are exported. Even big names like Paulaner, H-P, and Weihenstephaner either don't send any or they send very little. It's too bad!

Punkel (spiced dunkel lager) from Lakewood Brewing comes to mind. It's a standard dunkel, but the pumpkin spicing puts it in the seasonal category. Very tasty IMO!!!

Give me a nice Munich Dunkel, Marzen or a Dopplebock during the cooler months.

Ayinger makes a good Munich Dunkel, their Dopplebock (Celebrator) is a world class beer as is Weihenstephaner Korbinian.

Okay, I'll say it: Weizenbocks aren't lagers, but I'll agree that they're tasty as warmers.

Not a seasonal but if you can get your hands on a Great Lakes Elliot Ness I have a feeling you would not be disappointed. Also I got my hands on Weihenstephen Oktoberfest for the first time this year and it was friggin magical!

I had Elliot Ness it was great. Havn't had the weinstephaner yet but their original is one of my favorite beers in any category.

Agree with Celebrator Doppelbock. Don't know if Capital Autumnal Fire is being re-released but was excellent last year. Have to mention Cigar City Oktoberfest and Sierra Nevada Vienna Lager in their fall pack, both great!

If you can obtain it (it doesn't make it to ATL anymore), Lakefront RiverWest Stein Lager is a fabulous beer. Malty goodness.

Don't worry, I'm a big dunkel fan and I'll drink plenty of dunkels here in Germany for the both of us! :-)

Shelton Bros. bring those fantastic Franconian gravity kegs to the U.S. every fall - looking forward to them. Also I just scored the last sixpack around of Troegs' Sunshine Pils, which I really wish they'd produce all year.

We total agree with Celebrator Dopplebock! T (hubby) also likes Robert the Bruce in the fall. Just bought him some this weekend.

Heck, I'll even drink pilsners all winter if nothing else tickles my fancy.

Jack's Abbey Smoke and Dagger is every bit as good as a stout or a porter to me, but much easier drinking.

Definitely Rauchbiers here, as well as Oktoberfests. Jack's Abby Smoke and Dagger (a smoked schwartzbier) is another biggie for me.

When it gets a little cooler I'll get in the mood for Doppelbocks. Last year we just received the initial shipment of Andechs, so that was on my heavy rotation. Since then I haven't really checked the dates, but hopefully there have been more recent ones on the shelves. Hirsch, Korbinian and Celebrator are also faves.
