I did a quick search and didn't see anything. I will be staying in Detroit for a wedding this weekend. We are staying downtown at the Renaissance Center. I was wondering if someone that is local can direct me to some good bottle shops to pick up some shorts/oddsides/anything else i cant get in ohio. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you want. Thanks guys!

I jump across the border from Windsor to buy in the area and never stop downtown for bottle shops. Best bet is to head to Royal Oak (head up I-75 and go west on I-696 a couple exits to Main St). Holiday Market is likely your best option.

Detroit does not have a good bottle shop(yet, one is opening soon). Your best bet is to head 15-20 minutes north to Royal Oak and stop and Holiday Market and Cloverleaf.

Edit:see, someone beat me to the same advice

Downtown Whole Foods at Mack and Woodward has a mediocre selection. However, if you take the 15-20 minute drive to the northeast burbs, Champanes in Warren, or The Wine Garden in St. Clair Shores both have awesome selections. If you have an extra few minutes, stop by Kuhnhenn right down the road from Champagnes and get a pint or growler of DRIPA... You wont be sorry

Great tap selection at Slow's and they usually offer growler fills of almost anything - not exactly downtown but only a five minute drive up Michigan Avenue.

I'm hoping we will have the time to run up there. We get in late friday night and have the wedding at 2, reception at the colony club at 530. With my family, it turns into a bottle share/drink fest in between weddings and receptions.

Any advice for shops on the way from Cleveland to Detroit?

Between Holiday and Champanes you shouldn't have to look much farther for anything currently out. Bonus these days is at Champanes you can actually sit down and have a pint or two before shopping.

Try Discount Drinks in Wyndotte. I have never been but my downriver friends like it. It is a few miles off 75 before you get into Detroit proper

    ORLY?
I'd say Slows is close enough. Hell, when I was in high school we used to walk from Michigan & Trumbull to the tunnel to catch the bus back to Canada (it stopped running to the stadium after the game was done, we stayed for fireworks on Friday night). Enough aboot that.

Another place closer to Ren Cen that has growler fills is Great Lakes Coffee.

There's a place in Hamtramck called Steve's. It looks like a typical dive liquor store, but gets a lot of the Shorts/Founders seasonals and has an otherwise shockingly good selection. It's at the corner of Caniff and Lumpkin right off I-75 about 5 min north of downtown. Don't worry, the neighborhood looks scary, but it's not.

My usual go-to spots when I come down into Michigan are Champagnes (near Kuhnhenn in Warren), Holiday Market (Royal Oak), and 8 Degrees Plato (Ferndale).

I haven't been to downtown Detroit in a few years but I hope you aren't trying to get this guy killed.

Wow. A "Detroit is dangerous" joke. How edgy and original.

hey guys thanks for the responses. i am hoping we have enough time to stop at the places you guys suggested. i am thinking that discount drinks, champanes, and maybe holiday market would be do-able. i appreciate the responses! i think there are plenty of places for drinks in between the wedding and reception around where we are staying, plus we have a free shuttle service. has anyone been to the colony club? That is where the reception is.

Must've been a long time since you've been here, the city is coming back in a big way now with a lot going on. However the negative perception from the mass media will always be there unfortunately.

The Colony is a pretty nice venue. Where is the wedding being held?

Grand Trunk Pub (within walking distance of the hotel) usually has a good selection on tap too. Might be worth trying to pop your head into Cliff Bell's just up the block from the Colony when the wedding is winding down for a nightcap cocktail and jazz.

The wedding is at the cathedral of the most blessed sacrament. And last time my family got together, we had a wedding in Oxford, OH (miami university). After the reception, we all went out to the bars and that turned into an absolute shit show. Even my 79 year old great aunt was out until 2am with us. We definitely could use a "safe" place to go after the reception. Thanks for the tips!
