I don't understand the love for pumpkin beers at all. I severely dislike Pumking - unbearably sweet and artificial tasting. But Elysian Night Owl is fantastic.

Was the pumking just aged a year or barrel aged as in bourbon barrel?

I agree I like pumking with a year on it more than fresh as well though. I have one aside to see what 2 years does (next year) so who knows, but definitely a year smooths it out.

Never had Good Gourd or Good Gourd Almighty, but the only Pumpkin Ale I've ever had that I've considered to be outstanding is Almanac Heirloom Pumpkin.

Tried the Dogfish Head for the first time this year. Easily my favorite so far, though a little pumpkin goes a long way with me.

I guess I am in the minority but I just was really disappointed with the Dogfish Head Pumpkin. Just kinda blah and nothing really to get into for me.

Need to get some Schafly and Good Gourd.

Had a 2 year aged Pumking a few weeks ago, definitely prefer it fresh.

Had a small tasting with two of my friends that included this year's pumking, Schlafly pumpkin, and Elysian The Great Pumpkin and Elysian's came out on top. Can't wait to try their punkucinno and other pumpkin brews

If you are talking about the Oak Aged Pumking that ST brewed for a few years and then discontinued, I would agree that it is off the hook.

I love Pumking, but the Oaked aged version just blows away the standard version.

Separate from that , bottled Pumking with a year of age on it is smooth and mellower. Vanilla notes come out. I try to age at least one bottle for consumption on Halloween night the following year. Magical!

Almanac Heirloom Pumpkin is pretty outstanding. At $10 for a 375 ml, I only buy a couple a year, but man it's good.

When I first got into craft beer, I used to love Pumpkin beer. No I can't drink them because Im sure my palate had changed and now a lot of them have a medicinal taste to me. This is my palate and my opinion everyone. But I will say the only Pumpkin beer I still drink is Southern Tier Pumpking. It's truly is the holy grail of pumpkin beers. Fall in a bottle.

The best pumpkin beer I've ever tried is the dry dock imperial pumpkin. Absolutely fantastic. The tastes of the spices are really strong which I love. Not sure if they sell it any where but denver though.
