I suppose he could tape the caps (electrical or duct tape couldn't hurt.) I'd not worry too much about it.

    Your dad is a keeper.

Yea I can get it any time as I work a mile away, I just didnt want my initial impression swayed...that being said I'll review it on a fresh pour a few weeks later most likely.

Won't be super fresh but will also not be bad either. Your dad rocks.

Why not pick it up today and let us know how the week old growler compares? I suspect it would be fine, but probably a little on the flatter side.

Yea he's done it a few times as its kind of on the way home for him walking to south station. I certainly have no complaints. He also has a coworker who had a second home down the road from Mr. Hill...I was lucky enough to try HF back in 2011 because of this.

Well I would do that, but that would mean buying another growler...I already have 2 and have 4 more now apparently.

I've had Congress St. on two occasions. Once, it was I think 2 days old and the other time it was nearing 2 weeks old. The 2 day old one seemed a tiny bit more explosive with the citrus to the palate, but both were extremely aromatic and excellent. In fact the perceived difference could have only been because the fresher one was my first time having it and it completely caught me off guard. If I didn't know the one growler was two weeks old, I would have believed it was freshly filled. I wouldn't worry too much about it being a week old and not getting the true experience.

Thanks. I just am always hesitant with the screw cap growlers. I'm not sure why other places don't use swing tops. Can't be cost as the cost is being carried by then consumer.

As a consumer, I'd prefer the cost of a screw top. Flip tops are $8 or so in bulk (most places charge $10-13/ea, even in bulk). Screw tops are more like $2.50. As long as breweries fill only their own growlers, I'll take the screwtops and just drink it right away.

I believe HF sells 750 for 3 and 2L for 10. Cant really beat that considering that 10 dollar 2L head and shoulders above any other growler in NE.

Trillium was telling customers to open within one week last night.

I liked how they were doing samples last night. Offer to serve in glass you can buy, or just plastic cup. That may just be because I'm obsessed with mini snifters though.

Just got back from Trillium during a visit to Boston and Portland, ME. I sampled the Fort Point and got two bottles each of the Mettle and Congress St. The Fort Point is hands-down amongst the best pale ales on the market (better than ZD). Mettle and Congress Street are quite simply at the top of their respective categories. Both Mettle and CS achieve a huge dankness while at the same time maintaining a balance that's unrivaled. JC and his wife are a perfect team producing great beers.

In the last 2 weeks I have had Fort Point and ZD here in Chicago, Fort Point is better.

I had my first Mettle yesterday. Incredible stuff. These Guys are killin' it right now. Fort Point, Congress Street, Mettle, Pot and Kettle, all delicious.
