Am I the only one who is getting a bit frustrated by how OH is handling their bottles? Silent releases, last minute date changes, wildly different information on bottle counts, etc? I love their beers but not sure I am going to play whatever game seems to be unfolding. I hope I am just mis-reading the situation.

    Good meeting you yesterday.

Thanks again to your buddy, especially for the taste of that Daybreak. And a big thanks to that other guy for the focal banger and crusher pours. Those capped off a damn fun night of beer.

the date change was kind of annoying, but I would much prefer silent releases or at the very least minimal notice, weekday releases, etc. gives preference to the locals who are the ones that are there for growler fills on non-release days.

I agree with weekday releases, minimal notice, etc. Just think date changes and wildly different information on when and how much they are releasing is a bit odd.

too much beer involved in the decision making perhaps?

They have had one "official" release with the stout. Seems like there was conflicting info on it, but some hearsay by us could have contributed to it. Actually seeing the reviews people who got shut out should be happy ! That beer lasted for days or longer at the brewery. The release last night, was it even a release? They made some beer and apparently are selling it.

At the end of the day it is only beer. Every new bottle of beer made doesn't need an official release so the masses can create hysteria and line up hours to get it.

For me, pretty simple, they make a lot of great beer and new stuff is constantly showing up. Show up there regularly and drink whatever great beer they are serving. As people found out last night, it frequently includes beer beyond what OH brews.

agreed. i go there once a week and there is usually a brand new beer showing up every thursday, often that has never been seen before. no special "release" or anything else, just great new beer. the only time things have ever gotten out of control there (and it really wasnt too chaotic) was for the sat morning bottle release, and those bottles were still for sale the next thursday so I'd be surprised if anyone got shut out.

Does anybody have an idea when "other half" will start distribution beyond NYC namely Buffalo. I have tried emailing them but get no response...which may be my answer. Thanks

they handle their own distro, so i'd have to figure unless the significantly expand their operations or hand off the distribution it is not happening.

Yep - they are fully self distributed. Good old Anthony delivers kegs, picks up empties, and deals with handling the tasting room. So they def don't have the man power, or delivery vans, to handle distro outside NYC.

Mainly because Sam really doesn't want to deal with distributors yet. He has said that distributors tend to sit on kegs and then deliver kegs to bars that aren't so fresh. He's really into quality control. He's even weary of some bars that don't have temperature control storage.

Also they are the hottest beer brewery in NYC right now. Constant media coverage about them. They are overwhelmed with attention. So if they didn't return your email yet, don't take offense.

I know they have plans to can Green Diamonds in the future, which might lead them to look into distro, but right now it makes no sense, given that they are in such high demand locally (and at the brewery). Same reason Tree House doesn't distribute.

Yeah as for the cans, Sam says tasting room sales only for the time being.

But perhaps if they start making enough cans, they can let a distributor handle can distro.

Then those outside of NYC can enjoy our local nectar!

Looked like a good amount of V-Love left (5 cases). Was surprised how much I like the ESB. Kind of an Other Half take on an ESB (hopped-up and not as bitter). Forever Green is a nice dank, piney, session IPA. Can't wait to try the Absentia stout, it's on deck.

Anyone try the V-Love yet. I wasn't that big a fan of the bourbon barrel V-Love they had on tap at Double Windsor.

Were they selling V-Love bottles in the tasting room last night?
