Not to mention that it costs between $4000-$7000 every two years for an out-of-state brewery to sell in Texas. There are some breweries that won't come to the state solely as a matter of principle. Compare this to wine, cider, mead or liquor, who pay a fraction of this cost and enjoy much more relaxed labeling standards.

Texas' label laws are not really an issue anymore. There is no need to state "ale" on the label anymore which was the problem (excuse) for most breweries. The only issue for labeling is that you still need to pay for label submission even if its approved on the Federal level.

Yup, I've been drinking the hell out of it while up here. The Cerise Sour Blonde is incredible.

The need to submit a label for each format size, and to submit alcohol testing within 0.2% of the stated level is something unique to beer, as are the lengthy processing times which can extend to several months in some cases. The ale/malt beverage vs beer was the most embarrassing element of Texas label approval and was thankfully changed, but even now it lives on in tax categorization.

Trust @elWhite He actually knows what he is talking about because he and his company are helping bring a lot of these new breweries into Texas.

What happened to sweet water? I thought that was a done deal and it's been almost a year

Probably late November-December. They still haven't finished rolling out in Ohio and they seem to be going a state at a time (and only Texas is left). The press was always "later 2014", so the delay is not entirely unexpected.

So just to revive this, is it looking like New Holland is coming here?

They are, but just to DFW for the time being. They are going through Andrews Distribution which only covers that area. Apparently, they are testing the waters. I see them expanding down here within a couple of months after.

They should be down (in some form) in DFW in November. They are part of a bunch of NTX beer week things, so they would have to have label approval by then.

You can go ahead and add Spencer Trappist Ale and Urban Family Brewing to the list of breweries coming to TX:
