    Payette Brewing - Rodeo Rye Pale Ale. It has been my favorite session ale since last summer.

    Peeper by Maine Beer Company, when fresh, is an excellent session ale. Crisp, flavorful and easy drinking.

    Not a fan of session ales. I mean they're perfectly tasty, but they are usually priced the same or close to non-session ales so I usually just buy something that's tasty but also has a higher abv.

    I think maybe you miss the point of "session" beers...

    What's the point of paying the same amount to get a weaker version of a beer?

    Lower ABV is the point. The thread is about low ABV (i.e. "session") beers that still taste good, not most ml of alcohol per dollar.

    Not a big session beer freak but I came across these fine beers this year..

    Rising Tide - Maine Island Trail Ale 4.3% in 16oz. cans!
    Sixpoint - Sensei Harvest 4.7% (A bit thin but this is a very good wet hop beer)
    =================================================
    My first craft beer
    Sierra Nevada - Pale Ale - 5.6% (The old standby that is always in my fridge and a good multi-purpose beer)

    My homebrewed English dark milds and Berliner Weisses, 3 to 3.5%. These 5% beers ya'll are talking about aren't session beers, imo.

    I just don't understand why the word "session" has to mean low abv. Why can't I enjoy a "session" of beer above 5%?

    Because "session beer" isn't at all the same thing as a beer you individually choose to session.Any more than the car you use to "race" round the block is an actual racing car.
    A session beer is one brewed with the intention that it will be drunk pint after pint after pint over several hours.Proper pints that is.So the chief criterion is low ABV. It also needs to be flavoursome and a good one tastes better with each passing pint so you don't get tempted by what other beers are on offer.
    To "define" a session beer as under 5% , even when the word actually arrived with a definition, entirely misses the point of the genre.In this land of session ales , 5% is called a "strong ale" and for a very good reason. Try drinking a dozen or two pints of it and the strength becomes apparent.
