there is a given risk in trading. If bottle broke during shipping cause of improper packing thats one thing, but if a beer skunked after 3 years of storage, I don't think that necessarily warrants a bad trader tag. Its a risk you take when trading for an aged beer.

But you have no idea if it was actually improperly stored...

Could have been stored improperly, could have just been a bad bottle from the brewery, no way to know.

What did you taste? A skunked beer is very distinct. Could it be you were confused tasting a good beer?

sorry, was not trying to comment on the off flavor when saying skunked, simply just meant the bottle was bad there. Tasted like grape bubblegum flavored cardboard. Guys in my tasting group had the beer fresh a few years ago to compare from and was nothing like the one they had previously. And I'll just ignore your trolling question at the end of your post.

My last bottles tasted more like grape flavored hubba bubba, but never heard of anyone's taste like bubbalicious. I think it had something to do with those ruby tones.

I got more of a grape jolly rancher note in my last Leon that I aged out on my back porch, it was delicious! I wish more BA barleywines tasted like that, perhaps I would actually like the style.

I heard the grape flavor can come from bad bacteria introduced during bottling. I believe the name is eppydumace. It can also be introduced at consumption.

I drank mine with Bubble Yum in my mouf, absolutely outstanding. Didnt have grape, went with the regular and it gave it an outstanding flavor.

Not a bad trader but, c'mon - is "fuck off" the best response? So many of these threads about bad traders emphasize "it's all about communication" and "fuck off" isn't very communicative. Or, rather, it is communicative ... and what it says is "I got mine and as for you ... HA HA HA."

How about something like "That sucks that the bottle wasn't how you remembered it. But I did store it properly since release and, you know, sometimes age doesn't treat a beer well regardless of how it's stored. That's part of the risk of trading for older beers. Regardless, I don't have another to replace it with. That said, it still sucks and I feel bad sending people beers that aren't good. If we trade again, I'd be happy to throw in a nice extra to make up for it."

Just sorta goes with my motto ... empathize and try not to be a jerk.

Yeah. Fuck etiquette is very important. Could you pass a long more details of how many fucks were used and how many fucks were given? What was the exact Fuck vernacular used?
