Was I the only one who found this beer to be incredibly hot and one dimensional? Ended up pouring out 6oz. FT Black Eye ISO 2 Uncle Jacobs

You are definitely the first and only person I've heard with that opinion, but to each his own!

I thought it was smooth and easy drinking for such a booze bomb. But a friend struggled to get through 6 oz as well. Said he didn't like the rum notes in a stout.

I think it's very complex for what it is. Chocolate covered marshmallow rum balls. The thing to keep in mind is that it's simply a big ass imperial stout aged into rum barrels with no additional ingredients. It doesn't rely on coffee, cacao nibs, cinnamon, peppers, truffles, black magic, etc. to create it's complexity and I still think it goes toe to toe with some world class stouts that do. Okay, there might be some black magic though...

To each his own indeed though.

^^^Nailed it. I drank the whole bottle myself without a second thought and probably would have finished a bomber if it were packaged that way. Delicious!

While I like it, I can understand how someone might not. I'm generally not a huge fan of anything from rum barrels. I find them (and most rums) to be one dimensional and hot. I love a few rum barrel aged beers, especially Momi, but there are probably 4x as many I don't care for. I couldn't care less about Rumpkin for instance. I get some every year and it never ceases to disappoint me.

Hey guys, I'm heading to Boulder Friday. Any chance there will be any in stores?

    Cheers!

    It's a good possibility; I'd check Hazel's for sure.

was just at boulder liquor mart and at hazel's and both had plenty of rumpkin, pumpKYn, and black eye. if you're into whiskey, hazel's had ECBP on the shelf.

If there is one thing I can guarantee, it's that @yourefragile , @Rhettroactive , and @siege06nd , it's that they are DIRTY LIARS. I deny knowing them when I'm asked in public. The last time I heard "Hey, aren't you yourefragile?!?!" at an event, we both ended up blacked out, looking for a friends sisters on Tinder. When I woke up, there was a spilled growler of Nooner in our sink and I had paid for a $22 caesar salad. Maybe that's how we reviewed Black Eye...

Good thing I only checked into the beer on Untappd! Saved myself some BA scorn. Whew.

Now if you'll excuse me, there are so many ticks on this site that I have to make up scores for.

Isn't that how you get to drink the 'top 250'? Or I must be doing it wrong.

Have seen it posted online at least one place. Haven't seen it posted as available in any other state outside CO except CA. Wonder if it made it anywhere else.

Do you think it'll make it to those parts? I thought that it usually took >~700 cases for it to. I know they got Rufus, 5 Monks, and PumpKYn, and they've always seen UJ and Rumpkin. I didn't think the smaller releases would make it that far though...
