I'm relocating soon due to my career. I have a cellar of around 40 beers. What recommendations do you guys have for transporting these while minimizing damage, oxidation, and anything else that might be harmful to my collection? Thanks.

    1. Go to beer/wine store
    2. Ask for beer/wine boxes
    3. you cut a hole put beer in boxes
    4. move beer to desired destination
    5. take beer back out of boxes and put in new cellar
    6. make robot costumes out of boxes
    7. stage pretend alien robot invasion on new neighbors
    8. enjoy being left the fuck alone for the duration of your stay at new residence

Will I be fine with putting them in boxes, not cooled for a few hours and then re-cooling them at cellar temperature?

Is this with or without the robot thing?

Pack beers into old case-boxes from Total Wine. Place in truck of car. Say a prayer that you don't get into a car accident en route to your new destination. Arrive. Unpack.

Worked for me three weeks ago!

Cool. Thanks all. I was just worried that all my imperial stouts might turn into sour, oxidized, liquid poop.

I would consider wrapping something around the caps of the bottles. Electric tape, splicing tape, something along those lines. I was forced to drink my last bottle of 2 Turtle Doves when it bumped into another bottle fairly gently, dented the cap and depressurized the bottle. I was just organizing bottles in my house.

I moved 200+ bottles cross county last fall in case boxes in the back of a U-Haul. Your beer will be fine.

I moved 200+ bottles from NC to CA via FedEx. 20 boxes (and $400 later), only had one that didn't make it. Of course had some Westys, Flaming Fury, etc. in it.

I'm moving in a few weeks, and I'm not sure I'll be able to do all of these steps because I'll need the boxes to store the beer. But just for poops and giggles, here's a picture of me doing the last few steps in downtown Newport, RI:

I packed and moved 1600+ bottles from my cellar to a wine storage unit. Kept them there several months, and then moved them all back and unpacked them onto new shelves in my newly waterproofed basement.

Not a fun couple of days, but the beer survived just fine. Not one accident in either direction.

I packed up ~120 bottles and drove six hours for a work move in April and all turned out fine. Of course I haven't drank all of them yet but they were all well protected in coolers and boxes and wrapped in plenty of newspaper and bubble wrap. The ones that I have had so far were all fine. Other than the packing and unpacking, have no fear!!!
