Ever miss an opportunity because you weren`t at the right place at the right time?

Arrived at my local beer store, owner is chatting with a customer. Come to ring up my purchases and he says: ``Should have come earlier Pat, we had an impromptu tasting.`` Pulls out an empty bottle of Sip of Sunshine!! Argh damn, been wanting to try that for awhile and missed it by that much....

    What are your similar experiences?

I missed a DB keg pouring at Dark Lord day, but the only reason I missed it because I was in line drinking pours of the BVDL Dark Lord. Id say it was an even trade off.

Didn't spend enough time researching what brewers were bringing to EBF and missed out on Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, Toppling Goliath, and a few others.

Been on both sides of this coin. Net/net things balance out. But like in poker, you tend to remember the bad beats

A friend of mine and I were driving through Iowa and we had the inclination to drive to TG, but we ended up deciding it was too far out of the way. They released KBBS that day.

Stopped in at Toppling Goliath in Decorah IA. Ordered a beer at the bar and watched people come through the door after me, each buying a couple bottles to go. After a bit, someone yelled "that's the last of the of King Sue". Then the locals proceeded to talk about how fast it sold out. You'd think one of them, or the bartender, could have given me a heads up.

So if you ever visit Toppling Goliath, get your to-go bottles from the cooler first!

I was in vermont recently with my GF and probably could have gone balls out trying to try a million highly ranked brews. Without really trying I had Heady Topper, 2 superb offerings from Lawsons and a bunch of beers from Zero Gravity.

Lifes to short to get bitter over beer you didnt drink. I get more upset about shitty beer I do drink.

I met a beer friend at last year's Rare & Obscure special event. He had just moved to MD and wanted to start a bottleshare group. I missed the first one, which included Rare and was one of the larger tastings to date. He swore he had invited me through e-mail and what not, but I never got. Thus we created a FB group and nobody has missed one yet. However, a photo from that tasting is the banner for the group, so I always have a reminder. That one stings just a little.

Oh man, I was there 2 days before the KBBS release in September. I was lamenting the fact that I had just missed the King Sue release the week or so before. At least I brought some bottles back with me to soothe the pain of missing out on it. That really sucks that you missed out entirely.

I have a horrible case of FOMO.

Last year when I was living in NJ, I got word that the liquor store next to my work, literally 5 minutes away, had received a shipment of 120 Min. I was pumped but knew that when I left for the night at 10 they'd be all out and closed. So I was waiting for my co worker to show up so I could run out for my lunch. 7 PM comes around, he still doesn't show. Gets there around 20 minutes later. I run out the door and drive over and womp womp, all out :slight_frown:. I could see the empty box and everything.

I don't usually run around for certain beers all that often, but back in the early days of Enjoy-By it tended to sell out pretty quickly in my area. One of those times I saw it posted on the store's Facebook page, and I was going to have to be in that area anyway to accompany my son to his league bowling night, so that's when I'd have to go. As it turns out, I just missed the last bottle by 15 minutes, they said.

I guess that's the one I remember because how often do you actually know how close you were. That probably works both ways, though, like @rollom posted above.

Westie 12 comes to mind. Had to work the day it was released, but took the earliest lunch break of my life to get over to Total Wine before they sold out. Too late - my coworker and I had just missed it by about a half hour the manager told us. Fortunately I've been able to pick one up in a trade since then, so it doesn't hurt as much as it used to.

Over the summer is been looking for beer camp. I was browsing in a store when someone asked if the store had any left and the employee pointed him to where the last pack was sitting.

2 sessions of GABF this year, Thursday night I was too late to get any PseudoSue or Assassin from Toppling Goliath so the Friday night I made it my first stop. 30 minutes in line later, I see the last taste of Assassin being handed out 2 people in front of me.... Had to settle for the Sue

I missed out on Cigar City's Apricot Grove Sour just a week ago because I was out of town at the time. Although I can say that the moments when you just happen to be in the right place at the right time totally balance it out.

Had a coworker in Decorah for work last Feb. Best bar in town was a place I had never heard of (TG) and they were going since it was her birthday. She offered to bring me back bottles but I didn't want random bottles from a place I never heard of and to make her check the luggage so I declined. Who knows what they had....

Watching a guy buy the last 2 Pirate Bombs right in front of me was pretty painful. I walked through the door before he did, but I didn't know they were kept behind the counter so I was walking around looking for them. His buddy had already told him you had to ask for them at the counter, 2 bottle limit.

    1) Westie XII: I read about the sale that morning, and I was going to take an early lunch to go get some up the road. My boss at the time was from Lille, France(right on the border) and wanted one as well had no problem with me leaving to go get beer. BUT, that day was our department holiday lunch so I decided not to go at lunch and left work at like 3:00 instead...and I missed out by an hour. That stung.
    2) Bourbon County Coffee, Proprietors: last december a semi national chain of bars with 50+ taps was doing a BCS night and had bottles to sell starting at 6PM. I get there at 5PM to wait. I've been a frequent regular there, and I noticed some others just telling the bartender "hey when 6PM comes around I'll take a proprietors, rye, etc..", so I did the same. 6PM comes around, and I say "can I close out now on the BCS?". The bartender says, "ok"..but then goes to get bottles for his friends(no biggies, i get it). When he comes back, I ask once more, and he says, "oh yeah. hold on, let me fill this order first..". 10 minutes laters he tells me they sold out...but the guy he knew who came in 45 minutes after me sitting next to me walked out with a box full of BCS and variants. So that did kinda suck.
