Yes! That Bodhi was unreal!!! Definitely something I'll need to seek in the near future!

Hm. I was on the other side of the street and didn't see much of that. I thought the major line messiness was among the people on lilac, which seems like where the cutoff for bands ended up being.

I had a blast as usual. There were a pile of great beers being shared and some good grub up and down the avenue. Thanks to all who shared great brews. Thanks again for having the hotspot....although there were some 'outsiders' siding up to the table who a lot of us didn't know...but, in the end, fun was had by all.

so the thing that confuses me is that it *seems* like a decent amount of Darkness hits distro. so why is there so much angst and energy that goes into getting the bottles on Darkness Day?

I'm nowhere near the event but that's just my sense.

Getting 6 bottles at $20 a piece is much better than driving around to stores to get single bottles at $25 a piece (after tax).

We are on the other side of 48th when the line condensed... there was about a 10 minute window where there was a massive gap in the line... The front condensed - but somewhere in the middle, no one moved up... and it was a massive gap... so people started filling in from our side of the street... It was pretty shady... Eventually the middle of the line condensed in with the front... but there were TONS of people just walking in and jumping in the gap - 10 minutes worth of people...

I walked the line at 7ish... We were prob at the 5/8th of the line mark (pre condensing)... When the line had condensed somehow we were literally right next to the end of the line...

I could care less about getting bottles at DD... I'll pick some up next week... It just sucks waiting all morning for "my spot" in line only to lose my morning/time/allotment to those that could give a shit about doing the right thing...

So many damn good people on here... Yet, a handful sure do leave a '13 Peruvian Morning taste in my mouth...

if it takes waiting in line all night...I would think that's arguable.

You are not exactly just waiting in line all night, you get to try a bunch if beers and socialize with a bunch of awesome people.

Previous years, people were able to walk up in the later morning and still get a wrist band. The nice weather and barrel aged this year seems to have made a lot more people come out.

That sucks about the last minute line jumping - exact same thing happened to me in '11 and I missed the cut by 2 people.

I had a blast last night - got to meet some great BAs and share some great beers. I thought it was a very well run event, kudos to everyone involved.

    Cheers!

Wonderful experience once again! First time having to fly from Texas, but still incredibly worth it! And BA Darkness is every thing I hoped it would be.

I was with the Backpocket crew near the front of the line. Thanks to every one around us that shared beer and food! And thanks for the kind words about Backpocket's beer!

Hope to see more familiar faces next year!

Any word whats going to happen next year? Its pretty obvious the festival has outgrown the current location. Seems like a few of Surly's Brooklyn Center neighbors are tired of it based on how some of the properties were fenced off this year.

Maybe they'll do a Darkness party at the brewery next year with the beer on tap but bottles will be distro only?

I agree, there are still 20k bottles to be had, darkness day is more of a novelty than anything.... I did feel bad for the people from out of state that flew in or made a long drive and missed out

Didn't they make a second batch as we'll last year?

They did, but what they made this year is equal to the total of the first and second batch last year. I believe most of that second batch went to Chicago.

Yes, eventually. Going at our own pace (read: slowly), and will eventually have a spot just outside of Duluth on the ~20 acres of land my wife and I own.

In the meantime though, Levi and I have started working with Fair State Brewing Cooperative here in the Cities. Currently fermenting is the Rye Saison some of you may have had last night. It will be going into red wine barrels soon, and we look forward to working with FSBC to help them develop their sour program over the next few years while Levi and I get our own gig going.

People coming over from the side of the street during the line condense makes sense. I brought my chairs & stuff back to the car about 8AM & the line was compressed when I came back...and there were 50+ people between us & the guys who sat right next to us last night. Couldn't quite figure out how that happened & it didn't impact us, but sucks for people further back.

Had a blast as usual. D-Day wouldn't be nearly the experience without D-Day eve.

Unless liquor laws change in Mn that may be all they can have since they'll be in Minneapolis...
