My friend got pushed in the back at the goatwhore concert and knocked to the ground. He told me he got hit in the face and someone reached down and either saw the bottle and pulled it out of his sweatshirt or grabbed it off my friend when he was trying to get up off the ground. There is a good chance whoever took the bottle from him had no idea what it was until after he took it. We were towards the front of the goatwhore concert and it was pretty rough up there after awhile. I did not see what happened to my friend I only got his version of it after the fact. I consider the bottle stolen though because whoever took it from him knew it wasn't theirs. The whole situation makes me sick. I'm not holding my breath that the bottle will ever turn up.

I really had a great time, the staff/volunteers were great, However, Anyone know why they decided to hold on tapping Darkness until 1 at the regular beer tent? If I recall it was on tap all day last year, and there was no more than a 3 minutes wait to get a pour.

The whole festival is based around Darkness, it would have been nice to be able to get it all day without much hassle, The line at 1:00 was pretty darn long. But if thats my only complaint, things went pretty well

Wow that's terrible. Really too bad some people ruin it for others. This along with the hundreds of line cutters and the people now selling it for $60 on Craigslist really piss me off.

Holy balls - I feel HORRIBLE for those waiting since Friday and didn't get their bottles... We got there Sat AM and I was bummed... Who in their right mind lets people back in line when they already got their band?!

4 Bottle Limit would have gotten everyone in line some beer...
Selling tickets would have taken care of the line cutting...

That being said - it's obviously A LOT more about the community and less about Darkness...This was my first DD and I was floored at the mini beer town that had taken over on 48th when I got there Sat AM... Had fun drinking with some great people from Des Moines and Aimes...

But all I think about is the shitty "entitled" people that think they are better than everyone else...

my 1st time and it was fantastic. got to hang out with some cool people and shared a lot of bottles that I wouldn't have otherwise had an opportunity to drink.

I got there at 4pm on Friday and was shut out of the wristbands. I made the mistake of sleeping in my truck and apparently missed the commotion of the line forming (so did the 2 guys I was with). The three of us were at the back of the line on Lilac and missed by 300 or so. I was able to get 2 bottles at 3pm, so it wasn't a total loss.

The only dbaggery I experienced was an overnight theft. I had 3 empty growlers stolen from our site while we slept.

Overall had a great experience and hope to make it back again.

Terrible when thing like this happen. Darkness Day brings out both the best in attendants and the worst.
Sorry, but I have to ask, why bring such a rare bottle if there were no plans to drink it?

We had just bought the bottle from the lady selling it at Darkness day. She was a local neighbor to surly and she brought it over to the fest grounds and sold it to us. I should have just taken it to my truck and locked it up. In hindsight that would have been the smart thing to do. Our plan was to pop it open at darkness day 2015 as part of a complete darkness vertical. This year we did a vertical of 2008-2013 and shared it with as many people as we could.

Sorry to add more speculation to this terrible situation, but you might want to look into the "lady" that sold you the bottle. Could have been a set up knowing that the person buying the bottle would put in the car and head into the event since outside bottles were not allowed. Bringing the bottle into the event, then might have forced the assault as plan B. A random assault and theft just seems unlikely to me. I wish you the best in getting your money or bottle back.

It was another great year hanging out with friends and meeting new people. BA Darkness was fantastic, thankfully I got one of the last pours at 1 PM, but it was quite the cluster. As usual, almost no waiting time for my bottles. Looking forward to next year!

I would say that I hope you are joking, but after having been to my share of these rare beer release things, I know that you are not. Last year, someone tried to carjack me at Darkness Day, and a drunk minor tried to start a fight with me when I wouldn't let him and his Mom (yes) cut in line. Surly employees actually watched the second incident happen and the solution was to move me further back in line so that I didn't hurt the guy (again, yes). This year, I had to deal with more drunk idiots at about 4am, and the apparent solution again was to move me somewhere else.

This isn't just a Surly thing, but the longer these breweries want to keep making gray money and skirting around open container/public intox laws and not spending the money on proper security/emergency response, the more these problems will not just continue, but eventually we will see some scary situations at these events.

That poses an interesting question. What does the city do? Brooklyn Center makes money off of every bottle of Darkness sold at the event, but it is hardly enough to put up with the headache of dealing with security and police action. Would Surly want to deal with paying security and the implied liability? I suspect these things will continue as is until something really big goes wrong and Darkness Day will be done forever.

My friend Sly had a bottle of Siberian Black Magic Panther (Apple Brandy) stolen out of his cooler. We set the cooler next to our car in the the very left hand corner just down from the "Pentagram" lot sign. Weird thing is, there was a Bourbon SBMP in there along with some other good stuff as well and they only took the AB SBMP.

I will echo the sentiments of others though, so many great people up at Darkness Day, it's unfortunate that a few idiots can put a damper on a good time. Nevertheless, I enjoyed hanging out, sharing/drinking beer and meeting new people. It was a great time!

How incredibly disgusting! Maybe the worst part of the whole craft beer world is the alcohol content of these beers and how people just can't handle it. I guess I'm not necessarily blaming the alcohol here, but, I'm sure it played at least a small part of this incident. Are people really that evil and selfish!?

Can't believe such an atmosphere of generous, great people can bring out arseholes such as these. I really hope you can find peace in this unfortunate incident. Hopefully this person is caught and justice is served. Post pictures and name(s) of said person. I'd be embarrassed to be such a jackass.

Was on the cleanup crew today and witnessed a handful of things:
    -Hidden and not-so-hidden puke piles
-Prankster type "Stink Bomb" packaging (seriously, who though this was a good idea?)
    -Lots of cigarette butts
-Lots of bottlecaps (assuming they were from us, since most were high quality)
    -Leftover campfire logs

Side note: I ended up with an extra empty town hall growler and would happily return it if someone is missing one.

Had a great time camping out on Friday, cheers to those around our group who were great neighbors!

Ha, figured I'd toss it out there is someone is missing one. I'm always looking for an excuse to meet up at Town Hall for a beer. Plus, I think I already have 4-5 TH growlers in my garage from the last decade.

That probably was mine that I left. I figured somebody would take it home. My brother works there so I'm always good on TH growlers. Thanks for asking though
